Vogue: Tennis Superstar Maria Sharapova Goes Inside the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in Los Angeles

“My overall style is fairly relaxed,” mused tennis superstar Maria Sharapova last month while on her grand slam of a book tour for her memoir, Unstoppable, that saw her wear ensembles from Maison Mayle, Protagonist, and Rachel Comey. However, yesterday in Los Angeles, the New York Times bestselling author switched things up with a gold crop top and high-waisted pants by Derek Lam, a high fashion take on a racerback top akin to the styles she’d sport on the court. “I love mixing both worlds, especially in my everyday life,” said Sharapova of her off court style. Her winning fashion formula is just as effortless as her signature slices on court. “As long as I feel elegant walking out the door,” said Sharapova, “I’m comfortable with what I’m wearing.” Above, Sharapova shares snaps from the day including selfies with master of ceremonies James Corden, and a peek inside her glam routine.

In the hair and makeup chair (at my kitchen table!) prepping for the event. Sipping on soothing lemon tea as I get ready for the festivities ahead.

Ta-da! Hair and makeup ready . . . and still sipping my tea. I love the softness of my glam look from my makeup artist, Fiona Stiles, and hairstylist, Derek Yuen, which offsets the edginess of my fashion pieces.

Stylist Cher Coulter and her team wanted me to look effortless during the freak L.A. heat wave. She and her team also thought the sparkle top would make for an excellent use of the KiraKira+ app!

As a previous CFDA ambassador, I’m a huge supporter of emerging designers and have the utmost respect and admiration for their creativity. Here I am hanging with Fashion Fund finalist Vaquera.

So great to see Eva Chen again—and this time in a much bigger space. (I did a tiny room interview with her a few weeks back in New York during my Unstoppable book tour—getting my 6-foot-2 self in that little space was certainly Instagram-worthy.)
