Rain halts Maria’s French Open match

Maria will be back on court on Friday to finish her second round match against Eugenie Bouchard of Canada. Maria was leading 6-2 4-2 40-Ad when played was cancelled for the day.

Maria got the first break of the match in the third game when Bouchard hit a backhand long. At 4-1, the match was delayed due to rain for a couple of hours. When play resumed, Maria won the two games she needed and won the set on a forehand winner. First set: 6-2 in 36 minutes.

In the second set, Maria faced a break point in the second game and saved it and broke in the next game with a thunderous forehand winner to lead 2-1. Bouchard got the break back in the next game to level the set 2-2 and Maria broke in the fifth game for the third consecutive break when Bouchard hit a forehand long to lead 3-2. At 4-2 40-Ad play was cancelled due to the rain and play will resume on Friday.
