In a rainy day at Wimbledon, Maria was lucky to be scheduled on Centre Court and won her match under the roof against Alison Riske of the United States. Maria won 6-3 6-0 in 68 minutes.
Riske broke Maria’s serve in the first game but Maria got the break back in the sixth game when Riske double-faulted to level the set 3-3. Maria got another break to lead 5-3 when Riske hit a backhand wide and won set point on her serve in the next game when Riske hit a forehand long. First set: 6-3 in 42 minutes.
Maria won five straight games to win the first set and continued the run in the second as she didn’t drop a game. The set took 26 minutes and Maria won the match on a forehand winner.
In the fourth round to be played on Monday, Maria will play No.9 seed Angelique Kerber of Germany. Maria has played Kerber five times before and leads the series 4-1, here are the matches they have played against each other:
