Maria is into the second round of the Australian Open after she scored a 6-0 6-0 win over British qualifer Harriet Dart.

The match took 63 minutes as Maria scored her sixth double bagel in a Grand Slam tournament.

In the first match of the tournament on Rod Laver Arena, Maria started strongly by breaking Dart in the second game and kept her form going throughout the set as she won it 6-0 in 31 minutes when her opponent hit a backhand error.

The momentum continued in the second set, as Maria won six games in a row and won match point when Dart hit a backhand wide.

In the on court interview after the match, Maria said:
“It’s been many years since I held that trophy here, so it was a privilege to be back on this court. My opponent not having the best day, I had to get the job done. The youngsters are taking our place, but not just yet.”

The next opponent for Maria will be world no.63 Rebecca Peterson of Sweden. Maria has never played the 23-year-old before. This match will be played on Wednesday.
