Maria through to Wozniacki meeting in Melbourne

Maria is into the third round of the Australian Open in Melbourne after a dominating win over Rebecca Peterson of Sweden.

The match finished after midnight as Maria won 6-2 6-1 in 71 minutes for her 600th career win.

Maria broke Peterson’s serve twice in first set as she won it 6-2 in 34 minutes when the Swede hit a backhand long.

Maria raced into a 4-0 lead in the second set and after a long deuce game in the sixth game which Maria won to lead 5-1, Maria broke Peterson in the next game to book her spot in the last 32 when Peterson hit a backhand long.

In Friday’s third round match, Maria will play No.3 seed and defending champion Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark. Maria has played Wozniacki ten times before and leads the series 6-4. Here are the matches they have played against each other:
