Maria defeated qualifier Richel Hogenkamp of the Netherlands to advance to the third round at Wimbledon. Maria defeated the world No.123 6-3 6-1 in 65 minutes.
Maria got the first break of the match in the first set to lead 4-2 but was immediately broken in the next game. A powerful return gave Maria a second break to lead 5-3 and on Maria’s serve in the next game a backhand overhead won Maria the set 6-3 in 31 minutes.
The form continued in the second set as Maria took a 4-0 lead and dropped only one more game on her way to the third round.
In Friday’s third round match, Maria will play No.29 seed Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania. Maria has played the 24-year-old once before in the first round in Madrid in 2012 and won 6-0 6-3.
