Maria storms into round four

Maria produced a dazzling display of tennis to defeat 7-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams of the United States 6-1 6-3 to advance to the fourth round of the Australian Open in Melbourne.

In three matches played, Maria has lost only four games and this is the least amount of games Maria has ever lost in the first three rounds of a Grand Slam.

The first set took only 29 minutes as Maria built a 4-0 and lost her first game of the tournament when Williams held her serve in the next game. Maria then won the next two games to give herself a one set lead.

The form continued in the second set as Maria raced to a 5-1 lead. Maria was broken serving for the match and Williams duly held her serve in the next game. At 5-3, Maria was serving for the match at the second time of asking and at 30-30, Williams hits a ball long to give Maria her first matchpoint and she quickly takes it with her fourth ace of the match.

On Sunday, Maria will play Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium. Maria has played the 27-year-old twice before and leads the series 2-0, here are the matches they have played against each other:
