Maria pulls out of Shenzhen

Maria has pulled out of her quarter-final match at the Shenzhen Open in Shenzhen, China due to a left thigh injury.

Maria was playing top seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus and the score was 6-1 4-2 when she retired.

After the match, Maria said:
‘I have felt my legs for a couple of days and at one particular point I felt a burn and just decided the smarter choice would be to evaluate it and see how it goes next week.’

The next scheduled tournament for Maria will be the Australian Open in Melbourne beginning on January 14th.
