Maria joined the exodus of seeds at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open in Wuhan, China after she was knocked out in the third round. Maria lost 6-7 5-7 in two hours and 16 minutes to world no.61 Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland.
The first set was decided by a tie-break as both players held their serve throughout the set. Bacsinszky won the tie-break 7-3. Maria broke Bacsinszky twice in the second set but was unable to maintain the advantage as Bacsinszky won the set 7-5.
The China Open in Beijing is Maria’s next tournament beginning on Saturday.
