Maria is through to the semis of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart after a 7-5 4-6 6-4 win over Ana Ivanovic of Serbia.
In the first set, Maria broke Ivanovic’s serve in the first game but lost the lead when Ivanovic broke to level the set 2-2. Neither player gave anything away on their serve until the eleventh game, and Maria broke Ivanovic’s serve when Ivanovic hit a shot into the next. Maria served for the set in the next game and won the set 7-5.
The match continued to be close in the second set as both players held their serves until the final game of the set. Ivanovic broke Maria’s serve to take the second set 6-4.
Maria raced into a 4-1 in the final set. Ivanovic came back to take the next three games to level the set 4-4 but Maria regained her composure to take the next two games as she moved into the last four.
In the semis to be played on Saturday at 2.00 PM local time, Maria will play No.3 seed Angelique Kerber of Germany. Maria has played Kerber four times before and leads the series 3-1, here are the matches they have played against each other:
