Maria moves into Beijing final

Maria is through to her fourth final of 2014 after she defeated No.9 seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia at the China Open in Beijing. Maria won 6-0 6-4 in an hour and 29 minutes.

This is Maria’s second final in the Chinese capital having reached the final in 2012.

Under the roof due to rain, Maria started the match strongly as she broke Ivanovic in the first game. Maria followed that up by two more breaks as she won the set 6-0.

The second set was closer as there was a trade of breaks at the beginning of the set. Both players held their serves in the next six games. Maria broke the Serb to lead 5-4 when Ivanovic netted a backhand. Serving for the match, Maria held her serve in dramatic fashion which had a bit of everything. Maria won the match on her fourth match point when Ivanovic hit a forehand out as Maria advanced to the final.

In Sunday’s final to be played at 4.00 PM local time, Maria will play No.3 seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic. Maria has played Kvitova seven times before and leads the series 5-2, here are the matches they have played against each other:
