Maria’s run at the Sony Open Tennis in Miami is over as she lost 6-4 3-6 0-6 to No.1 seed Serena Williams of the United States in the final.
In the third game of the first set, Maria had three break points but was unable to convert any of them. In Williams’ next service game Maria broke when Williams hit a backhand into the net. Williams got the break back in the next game. At 4-4, Maria broke again to lead 5-4 and to serve for the set. Maria held her serve when Williams hit a forehand long and won the set 6-4 in 55 minutes.
Williams took a 2-0 lead in the second set. Maria broke Williams twice to lead 3-2 but lost the next four games as Williams took the second set 6-3. Williams continued her run in the third set and didn’t drop a game.
Maria’s next tournament is the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart beginning on April 22nd.
