Maria loses Australian Open final

Maria’s Australian Open is over as she lost 3-6 6-7 to No.1 seed Serena Williams of the United States. The match lasted an hour and 51 minutes.

Williams got an early break to lead 1-0 in the first set. At 2-3, the rain that was predicted started and the roof was closed which caused a short delay. Williams broke again to lead 5-2, Maria got one of the breaks back in the next game but Williams broke again to take the set 6-3 in 47 minutes.

The intensity level increased in the second set as both players were hitting spectacular winners and not giving much away on serve as there no breaks and the set was decided by a tie-break. Williams won the tie-break 7-5 on her third championship point.

Maria’s next tournament will be Russia’s Fed Cup tie against Poland which will be played next weekend.
