Maria defeated Mallory Burdette of the United States 6-1 6-1 to advance to the fourth round of the US Open.
This is Maria’s ninth appearance in the fourth round at Grand Slams in the last ten dating back to Wimbledon 2010.
Maria broke Burdette’s serve in the first game as Maria’s pace of shot was troubling Burdette. Maria then took five of the next six games and won the set when a forehand hit the net cord which Burdette had no chance of retrieving.
Maria got an early break in the second set to lead 2-0 with a forehand winner. At 5-1, Maria hit a winning serve and followed it with a 107mph ace. Another huge serve brought her three match points and Maria converted the first with an easy put away.
