Maria is through to her third straight French Open final after she defeated No.18 seed Eugenie Bouchard of Canada in Paris. Maria won 4-6 7-5 6-2.
For the third consecutive match in Paris, Maria got off to a slow start as she dropped the first set to the Canadian 6-4.
In the second game of the second set, Maria got the first break to lead 2-0 with a backhand winner. Bouchard broke back in the next game but Maria broke again to lead 3-1. Serving for the set at 5-3, Maria was broken and Bouchard held her serve in the next game to level the set 5-5. At 6-5, Maria broke Bouchard’s serve and won set point when Bouchard dumped a forehand into the net. Second set 7-5 in 59 minutes.
Maria got the first break of the third set to lead 3-1 when Bouchard hit a forehand volley into the net. At 5-2 on Bouchard’s serve, Maria needed five match points to take the match but finally won it when her backhand hit the line to book her spot in her ninth Grand Slam final.
In Saturday’s final, Maria will play No.4 seed Simona Halep of Romania. Maria has played the 22-year-old three times before and leads the series 3-0. Here are the matches they have played against each other:
