Maria is through to the third round of the Australian Open after she defeated world No.100 Virginie Razzano of France 7-6 6-3.
It was a tricky match for Maria who was playing a player who was ranked No.16 in 2009. Razzano raced into a 3-0 40-0 lead in the first set. Maria pegged her back and finally took the set on a tie-break which she won 7-3.
Maria needed three match points to take the match in a marathon last game before sealing victory.
In the third round to be played on Friday, Maria will play Julia Goerges of Germany. They have played once before in Strasbourg last year on clay and Maria won in straight sets.
