Maria defeated top seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland to advance to the last four of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany. Maria won 6-4 6-3 in an hour and 39 minutes over the world No.3.
This is Maria’s second top 10 win and fourth semi-final appearance of 2014.
The first seven games of the first set were breaks of serve and Maria was the first player to hold her serve in the eighth game to lead 5-3 after being 0-40 down. Maria served for the set at 5-3 and won set point after Radwanska netted a shot after a strong serve.
Maria took control of the set with a 3-0 double-break lead in set two. After two marathon final games, Maria won the match on her eighth matchpoint with a forehand winner.
In Saturday’s semis to be played at 1.30 PM local time, Maria will play No.8 seed Sara Errani of Italy. Maria has played Errani four times before and leads the series 4-0. Here are the matches they have played against each other:
