Maria is through to her third consecutive final at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany after she defeated No.8 seed Sara Errani of Italy. Maria won 6-1 6-2 in 59 minutes.
This is Maria’s first final of 2014.
A pair of forehand winners gave Maria’s breaks in the second and sixth games to lead 5-1 in the first set. In the final game of the set on set point, Maria hit a forehand crosscourt winner as she wrapped up the set 6-1 in 26 minutes.
The momentum continued in the second set as Maria built a 4-1 lead. Maria was broken in the next game but re-grouped and won the next two games and won matchpoint on a down-the-line backhand winner. Second set: 6-2 in 33 minutes.
In Sunday’s final to be played at 2.00 PM local time, Maria will play No.9 seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia. Maria has played the 26-year-old eight times before and leads 7-2. Here are the matches they have played against each other:
