Maria is through to her seventh Australian Open semis after she defeated No.7 seed Eugenie Bouchard of Canada. Maria won 6-3 6-2 in 78 minutes.
Throughout the match, Maria held all her service games and had a first service percentage of 64% and won 84% of points on first serve and 50% on second serve. Maria had 19 winners – including 2 aces.
Maria started the match quickly by getting an early break to lead 1-0 when Bouchard hit a backhand out. Maria faced two break points on her serve throughout the set but saved them and in the final game broke Bouchard’s serve for a second time and won the set on her second set point when Bouchard hit a backhand wide. First set 6-3 in 41 minutes.
A backhand long by Bouchard gave Maria the first break of set two to lead 3-1. At 5-2, on Bouchard’s serve at 40-Ad, Maria hit a forehand winner for her fourth consecutive win over the 20-year-old.
