Russia lead Poland 2-0 in their Fed Cup World Group I first round tie in Krakow, Poland. Russia need to win only one of Sunday’s three matches to advance to the semis.
Svetlana Kuznetsova gave Russia the lead in the first match after she defeated the Polish No.1 Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4 2-6 6-2.
Maria was next on court and she played Urszula Radwanska and won 6-0 6-3 in an hour and 22 minutes to give Russia a 2-0 lead. Throughout the match, Maria had a first serve percentage of 63% and won 61% of points on first serve and 100% on second serve. Maria hit 30 winners to her opponents 6 winners.
After the match, Maria said:
“I started out strong then had a little bit of a letdown in that second set, but overall I’m just really happy to get through this match in two sets. I was obviously really happy with Svetlana’s performance earlier today as well – it gave me a lot of confidence for this match.”
