Maria defeated Sorana Cirstea of Romania to advance to the
third round of the China Open in Beijing. Maria won 6-2 6-2 in 78
minutes.
In the first set, Maria broke to lead 3-1 and 5-2 and won the
set when Cirstea hit a backhand into the net. Maria got another two
breaks in the second set to lead 1-0 and 5-2 and at 40-0, Cirstea
hit a backhand long as Maria advanced to the last 16.
In Thursday's third round match to be played at 12.30 local
time, Maria will play world number 90 Polona Hercog of Slovenia.
Maria has never played the 21-year-old before.
