Maria started her 2013 Australian Open campaign in style as she
didn't drop a game in her first round match against Olga Puchkova
of Russia. The match took 55 minutes.
This is the third time that Maria has won a match without dropping
a game in a Grand Slam and looked in total control against the her
compatriot.
After a shaky first service game, Maria holds her serve after
facing two break points. From that point on, Maria was in total
control and at 5-0 40-15, Puchkova hit a shot in the net as Maria
won the set in 30 minutes. Maria`s form continued in the second set
as she took the set in only 25 minutes and won the match when
Puchkova`s forehand floated long.
In Wednesday's second round match, Maria will play world No.92
Misaki Doi of Japan. Maria has never played the 21-year-old
before.
