Fed Cup Day 1: Russia 2-0

Russia are leading Spain 2-0 on the first day of the Fed Cup
World Group I tie at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow.
Maria gave Russia their first point in the tie as she defeated
Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-2 6-1. After an early exchange of
breaks, Maria won four consecutive games in the first set and four
more in the second. Maria closed the match on her first match point
with a unreturnable forehand winner.
In the next match Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated Carla Suarez
Navarro 6-3 6-1.
There will be three matches on Sunday and Russia only need to win
one to advance to the semis in April. Maria will play Suarez
Navarro in the first match which will begin at 14.00 local
time.
