Azarenka defeats Maria in Beijing

Maria was defeated by top seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in the final of the China Open in Beijing. Maria lost 3-6 1-6 in an hour and 27 minutes on the Diamond Court.

In the WTA rankings to be released on Monday, Maria remains at No.2 with 9135 points.

Maria's next tournament will be the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Istanbul beginning on October 23rd. This is Maria's final event of 2012.
