The draw for the first Grand Slam of the year at the Australian Open in Melbourne has been released and Maria is seeded second and will play world No.105 Olga Puchkova of Russia in the first round. Maria has never played the 25-year-old before. This match will be played on Monday or Tuesday. 

The first seed Maria can meet is No.25 seed Venus Williams of the United States in the third round.

Maria is playing her tenth Australian Open this year and her best result was taking home the trophy in 2008. Last year, Maria reached the final and has 1400 points to defend.
