The world-class player represents Porsche AG

Maria Sharapova’s career shines both on the court, and off. The 28 year old sustains a formidable presence in the business world, and is currently celebrating the two years in her position as the first female ambassador to iconic luxury sports car brand, Porsche. Maria is globally epitomized as ‘the modern woman’ – a woman with a successful career and a myriad of passions, a woman who treats herself to luxury, and most of all, a woman who likes to drive her own life.

The world-class player represents Porsche AG, participating in worldwide Porsche-sponsored events, like the CFDA’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign reveal before New York Fashion Week. Maria has helped to unveil new models like the Porsche Macan at the LA Autoshow, and introduced the Panamera GTS “by Maria Sharapova,” a fully customized sports car before the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in the athlete’s hometown of Sochi. Maria’s affinity for the Porsche brand even “sweetened” her own premium collection of candy, Sugarpova, with the introduction of Speedy, fruity yogurt car-shaped gummies inspired by iconic Porsche sports cars.

The cooperation between Maria Sharapova and Porsche is initially signed in 2012 and involves a global communications campaign, including the brand’s first ever commercial. Maria has also been spotted before international tournaments taking the newest Porsche models, like the 918 Spyder, out for a spin with Australian racing driver, Mark Webber. But the athlete is already very familiar with the vehicles from Zuffenhausen: she joins Martina Navratilova as the only other female player to have won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart 3 years in a row and earned a Porsche with each win in the process.

“Maria Sharapova is an exceptional athlete. She combines top performance in her sports with elegance and power. These are precisely the qualities that are embroiled in our sports cars”, says Matthias Mueller, CEO of Porsche AG. According to Mueller it was not easy to find the right person to be Porsche´s ambassador. “Maria Sharapova is the perfect choice. Her profile and charisma are an ideal fit for Porsche. She is also highly respected around the world and enjoys an outstanding reputation.”

For Porsche, the selection of Maria Sharapova as brand ambassador extends its long-term commitment to women´s tennis. The company sponsors the German women’s national team, which competes as the Porsche Team Germany in the Fed Cup, and the Porsche Talent Team Germany, which supports promising young players. The partnership between Maria Sharapova and Porsche will be lifted to the next level through Maria´s own tennis event “Maria Sharapova & Friends presented by Porsche” which will be held in December 2015 in Los Angeles.
