PS: We went over the whole bursitis thing five years ago & it seems no one troubles to look it up. It is a chronic inflammatory condition that may well have contributed to her previous injury.

I've had it Paul. Just like Maria, it was my shoulder due to tennis.  It's very painful; a nagging pain with regular sharp twinges.  In my case, the whole arm became so worn, it felt like a wet noodle.  Rest and gradual rehab was the only solution. And yes, depending on the exertion, it can er-occur.  Going through this recent sideshow as Maria has, and displaying no pain to the public, is quite an accomplishment.

I'll give her this...she and her management, Yuri included know damn well how to put up a SMOKE SCREEN when it's needed...didn't like those "stars & stripes"-show anyway...

Nah,Maria's a warrior. She'd never pull out of a grand slam without a legitimate injury

I agree with you! I'd rather see her playing for another 3-4 years.

Me too...i just have my doubts after the "silly circus" with Connors & "sugarpova"...

If she had pain last week why train and hit this week if she knows it's bad for her ???

I asked myself that question last night, but you know what, I have issue why elbow the pain comes and goes, so my doctor told me to really take a break for at least a month before playing again so I asume it's the same thing that she's been dealing with. At this point of her career and as a such stubborn person, there is simply no way she will just quit without a fight. If you are not ready to fight this time does not necessary mean that you are a bad looser.

Her game style requires sooo much power and intensity so I'm not sure whether her body can keep up with it. Vika is stepping her intensity and able to beat Serena but I don't see Vika surviving that long eiher.

None of the women player can simply compare strength with Serena, she is physically too too strong.

BTW, Thx for to link TIGER! I think Greg Garber. the senior espn writer was right about her having too many things at once and she cannot focus enough to compete.

This is an expensive lesson for Maria to learn from but you must learn from your mistake to be better

Despite all the PR crap that is constantly posted on the Homepage, The Social tries to convince us that she is still interested in Tennis.  This month alone, Gym and training court pics were published on 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th.  All with comments like making preps for US Open, or other fitness comments.  There is no reason to put that stuff up if it is fake and a person is seriously nursing a bad injury.  Cancelling now is a pure act of chickening out of a tournament that she has no chance of winning or even lasting the first week.  So many times in the past, she has pulled out of tournaments due to some strange injury during the tournament rather than going on court and getting beaten.  This is totally fake, engineered by the Mighty Max to give her all the excuses she needs to reduce her tennis to the minimum and increase her Fashion and Sugarpova crap to the maximum possible.

I am speechless, shoulder !! Since when?? Why come to NY, why play Cincy if there is a shoulder problem. Hope it is not too serious. Why have we , as devoted fans, not seen this coming. It's strange, don't know what to say anymore.

Just read some media stuff .  They are more talking about a mental problem than the injury. On top of that it is said that Maria will not compete anymore this year !!

Brebis has a good point.  Since Wimbledon, Maria has been cancelling tournaments because she hád an injured hip picked up during her last match with de Larcher. Now, suddenly she's saying that since Wimbledon she's had problems with her shoulder.  Hold on a minute now.  See, the problem is people can never remember lies and they forget what they've already said.  This is typical of Maria.  Her PR work never ceases, in fact, it's increased so much that she just doesn't have time to practice or play tennis anymore...but she still keeps earning bunches of money.  I'm sure Thomas realised this and dropped her.  Jimbo probably did the same if the truth were known.  Things are out of hand now and they will get worse probably til next year.  The Irony is that she will probably retain her ranking until the points are wiped out next year.

Yes,you're right. You can argue that a couple of other girls can hit it as hard as her but the thing is for Serena it is 'easy power' whereas the other girls really have to muscle the ball,Serena doesn't have to exert herself too much. Only Stosur can come close to her level of strength.

Found an interesting comment about whether Maria in disarray!?

They are probably right, she has way too much in her plate and I hope she will learn from this.

That’s an interesting debate… A small synthesis ?

There are two versions or scenarios for the recent events.

* The first version, represented by jameshazza, is the official statement : the UGLY shoulder injury prevent the poor (rich) Maria to take part in USO.

* The other version is represented by Philli Wan. According to what he/she says, the official statement hide the real reason : the latest problems including the separation from "Jimbo", the Shugarpova phase, the probability that Maria early lose in USO…

The second version seems (I have also a doubt) to explain the facts, but, without a proof, it’s difficult to know the truth…

As you may remember, I have long been expounding and applauding the virtues of Genie

Bouchard. There are at this time two (2) girls in my inner circle.  Maria is  clearly my number "1".

Genie is my number "1A".   Apart from her quickly evolving talent, she shows remarkable maturity and

thought process on the court for a nineteen (19) year old.  Her serve needs to tighten up and

she is.  She has recently taken a set from williams, the younger (regardless of the excuses coming from

the other camp).  She is tenacious and determined.  She handles the media with ease and transitions

seemlessly between French (albeit Quebecois) and English.  And did I say she was beautiful and perky?

That's why Genie is my star "up and comer", my "1A".
