That second set was quite pathetic, honestly. I love you Maria, girl, always and forever, but OMG what was going on in your head? You looked completely DONE.

3 Things were off in order of most off

1. Return of serve was HORRIBLE. Hard to watch.

2. Serve was up and down. Aces and then DF's left and right. I cringed a little :/

3. Forehand was just not there.

However, she managed to realize what she was doing wrong and turn it WAY around in the 3rd, and as Nike would say, thats what #counts. This reminds me of the Zakapolova match at RG. Could very well be that type of match mentality for her.

She got through but it was a tight squeeze. the first set was worrying, the second set horrid. Only in the third did she get her act together. Pironkova is no mug, I knew it twould be tough. But MARIA NEEDS TO UP HER GAME...ALL ROUND.....if she is to go anywhere near the final stages again.

Ps. Serena sailed thru....

There is something so eerie and odd about Court 1. Never have liked it, it's the court I consider the graveyard court, personally. Bottom line: I hate that court.

Um, well Pironkova was a semifinalist last year and took a set off of God-like Kvitova that year. Please, let's not compare Serena's and Maria's matches. Maria actually played a dangerous, worthy player. Czink hasn't had a good day in years. Serena was going to win that match. Had Pironkova not had to play Maria so early, she would have gotten to the semifinals.

And on that note of Maria having to play Pironkova SO EARLY makes me suspicious. Pironkova has never been pit against a number 1 before. What are the odds Maria's second round match is last year's semifinalist?

One word for you: Rigged.

The behavior of the offocials re last night's on-again-off-again darkness call was so questionable even the mouthpieces had to recognize it. Yeah, there was hanky-panky--just didn't play out for them. Heh!

Have not seen the match but hope this is a wake up call ! Needs to do better from here. Hope she is mentally fresh to continue. 'Heavy' arm might play up during the last matches this tournament. Any news in the States about Sasha ? It's clear to me that the relationship is over but what happened here the last 2 weeks ? Just nosy.

Sasha is back in California doing a basketball academy. 3 point shoot out or something. I was surprised when Maria didn't thank Sasha in her French speech. But she wore her ring when taking pictures with trophy so i figure they are still together

I don't think so if you look at her at Wimbledon ! There is no ring on the finger anymore and the academy is mid July. No reason really to stay away from Wimbledon for Sasha.

Don't think Maria will play her match tomorrow. 2nd match on Court 1. No roof and for a change there is lots of rain expected. By the way; Philli I hope you are doing fine as Germany lost !   A great way to end my evening. Regards from neightbour Netherlands.

Serena played with a player who is a joke compared to Pironkova... And please... Serena was sent packing in the first round in RG... so please dont make it seem like Serena is such an amazing example of performance... Maria was playing with a semi finalist, a player who is easily top 15 in the world on grass... and even though she didnt perform well, she upped her game in the third set with a bagel.

Yes it was a poor match overall and yes she needs to improve, but please lets not present Serena as the awesome example...

We will see how Maria is going to perform tomorrow, I am hoping for the best. Davai Masha!

PS: In other news the biggest shock of all time is the fact that Rafa was beaten in the second round by an unseeded guy called Rosol no 100 in the world... oh my God...

The world is coming to an end.

Oh and can we stop with all the damn OMG SASHA AND MARIA NO MORE speculation. She was wearing the ring in her first round press conference i'm pretty sure -.-

I think Maria and Nole are having too much fun together during the Head commercials shootings. They would make a very good glamorous power brand and personal couple :-)

6-1, 6-4 for Maria. Another uninspired second set, like in the last round. She was down 4-2 and struggling in the wind with her serve, DFs, and errors. Stop me if you've heard that one before.

She just looks flat and sluggish. I don't know if the clay court season and all of these deep tournament runs are finally taking a toll on Maria and she's just running out of gas. But if you project her road to the title to be Lisicki, Clijsters, Radwanska, and Serena, it doesn't look good at all, the way she's playing.

It is so easy for us watching to pick on Maria's game. What a lot of people probably don't know is that the conditions were treacherous out there. I congratulate Maria for her determination especially the last few games when the wind was so strong she could hardly stand still. She fought for every point and avoided a third set. Well done, Maria. I will always look up to you.

Oh my God seriously you are getting rather boring... Are you depressed or something? Your posts are full of dark clouds... you did the same thing in Roland Garros and we all saw how that went. Seriously... RELAX...

Rafa was eliminated yesterday by the number 100... Djoker lost a set today. Li Na , Stosur, Wozniacki are all out from joke players...Serena got eliminated in the 1st round in RG...

What do you expect, seriously? It looks like nothing but 100% PERFECTION can make you smile...its tennis. Its humans.

Maria played excellent until the wind started messing up her serve. Is that good? No, it is rather ugly to watch her DF when the elements of nature take over, but still she broke back and won the set. Sloppy second set? Yeah, am I happy with it? No, but I am not also mad...its getting tiresome to listen to you everytime moaning about Maria when she is winning matches.

What would satisfy you, for Maria to win every single match out there 6-0, 6-0? She is not perfect. Far from it. But she is taking those matches. It is inevitable, sometimes you are going to have sloppy days... the important thing is that even when you are not on your best, to win those matches.

Maria was sloppy today in the second set, but she pulled it off. I am satisfied by that and I hope she improves for later stages. Seriously, a little optimism never hurt anyone...its not everyday the winner of RG is winning WB... in fact it hasnt happened in 10 years...its not something "easy"... it is rather "hard as hell"...

Davai Maria.
