What is also important, it is to be in good health.

I also believe that Maria will win her first round match.

Roland Garros is my favorite grand slam to watch Maria play in, gives me good memories of when I first became a MaSha fan back in 2005 when I saw her for the first time, playing at the French Open.

Not much to say about today's match really, other than the scoreboard...

Maria won 6-0 , 6-0 in 48 minutes of total match time...

She had a great training and warm up day I guess...she was simply astonishing. Congratulations and I hope she keeps going like this, cause she seemed unstopable.

Well that was a quick match. Lasted almost an hour.
Great result 6 - 0 / 6 - 0. Did not seem like a challenge.

Very well played

No sympathy for a struggling opponent - mentality of a true champion.

Sharapova means business, Serena better watch out.

I said before that this match is just a GOOD practice for Masha.

What is important is the fact that Masha is in good health.

If she is in good health until the end of this tournament, she will win it.

God bless Masha.

I prefer not to be Cadantu today I guess it is the worst match of her tennis career.

World No. 2 Maria Sharapova crushed Romanian opponent Alexandra Cadantu without dropping a game in the first round of the French Open on Tuesday.

Cadantu, ranked 78th in the world, did not hit a single winner in her 6-0, 6-0 defeat as Sharapova dominated, winning 51 points to the Romanian’s 18.

Sharapova’s second-round opponent will be world No. 84 Ayumi Morita of Japan, who battled back from an set down in the first round to surprise 39th-ranked Slovakian Polona Hercog 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Russia’s No. 1 was handed a relatively tough draw for the French Open, including a possible meeting with either of two fellow seeded Russians, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Maria Kirilenko, in the fourth round, and the chance of a quarterfinal match with Serena Williams.

In other matches Tuesday, world No. 4 Petra Kvitova booked her place in the second round by beating Ashleigh Barty of Australia 6-1, 6-2, while Italian 14th seed Francesca Schiavone beat veteran Japanese player Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-3, 6-1.

Easy win for Maria with both set 6-0... She is really in form now and glad to see her in this shape of winning every match. Cheers Maria!

Serena seems to be out in R1 after defeat by Rozzano. This might be another breaking news where the first top players who is out from Roland Garros in R1.

Razzano SMOKED Williams! It was such an emotional match really, the last game was UNBELIEVABLE... 8 match points... EIGHT match points until she got the match!

I was very moved because I learned that Razzano lost her fiance recently and it was such an emotional match really... wow!

Serena is out from the first round....unreal match, a real SHOCKER!

Stunning loss by Serena, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. She had a 5-1 lead in the 2nd set tiebreak and choked it away. And was seen on the court crying at one point during her meltdown. Her first loss in the first round of a major in her career. Nobody saw that coming, especially when you consider she was 17-0 on clay this year. Like so many French Opens on the women's side, it's blown open. With Vika struggling and Serena out, a lot of ladies are smelling opportunity.

Yes, seeing Serena out of the way should be seen as a big help to Maria's chances.  However, the pressure on Maria to win this tournament just got IMMENSE.  All eyes will be on her and her only now.  And when things opened up for her in last year's French, it ended badly.  All she had to do to complete that career Grand Slam was to beat the mental midget Li Na and Schiavone.  And she completely folded against Na in that semifinal.

So seeing Maria with all of this extra pressure makes me very wary.  I think someone like a Wozniacki could be a favorite.  She's under the radar now, she's dropped from number 1 all the way to 8, and no Serena in her way.  And she's beaten Maria in a major before.

It's still WAAAAAY to early to get excited about Maria's prospects.  She really didn't play that well today, with 13 UFEs and 4 DFs.  Let's just get ready for the second round, because, as we saw today, anybody can lose to anyone at any time.

I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING

I actually feel somewhat sympathetic towards he-woman, especially when she cried after the tie-break.

The thing for Maria is not to get cocky, to stay focused and take one match at a time. Her quarter has opened up completely now, but remember we still have Woz, Georges and Kiri who could really test Maria.

If she does make it past, she'll prob have to deal with Li, Petra, which isn't exactly going to be a walk in the park.

That's enough of me getting ahead of myself, she still has 6 matches to win till she can lift that trophy. Well done on today's win, and good luck!
