I think it is a good thing to get away from tennis a bit by flying back home to Manhattan Beach, otherwise too many people will claim her the week before the start.

No Masha won't play a match the day after the opening ceremony that is why she has a chance to carry the flag.

Maria Sharapova won't stay in the olympic village, she will stay in a house near wimbledon courts because the village is too far from the tennis courts&the matches will take place at Wimbledon.

Azarenka will follow Maria's example.

Silver Medalist Dinara Safina, who most always has good intel, tweets the Team Russia composition MIGHT be

Maria Sharapova

Vera Zvonareva

Maria Kirilenko &

Nadezhda Petrova

High probability Petrova & Kirilenko also will play doubles and

an additional doubles team Russia may be entitled to will be

Elena Vesnina & Ekaterina (Katya) Makarova

   ДАВАЙ Маша!!!  ДАВАЙ РОССИЯ!!!

Makarava is doing her best to reach team Russia.

Zvonareva in going to play at wimbledon to have a chance to keep her place in team russia.

We should not forgot that for athletes the Olympic Medals have no price. It is the most beautifull present for their sport career. Nothing in their careers can replace a gold medal at the Olympic Games.  It is a present only for the strongest athletes of the planet who enter in the history of Sport.

Let's know for example what do the athletes feel when they carry the Olympic torch?

Russian Olympic torch carriers: great impressions

Olympic flame continues its journey across Britain as part of the Olympic Torch Relay. Russian athletes, journalists and businessmen carried the Torch across Edinburgh.

Russia’s figure skating champion Tatiana Navka and the famous blogger Evgeny Kozlov shared their impressions with the VoR.

Scotland was chilly and rainy but when the torch-carriers approached the capital the sun went out. It was great to run along the sun-lit ancients streets, being welcomed by locals, says Tatiana Navka. “To carry the torch and feel everybody’s love and support was one of the best things I’ve experienced in my life. It’s a great honor and I’m so proud to be one the carriers”, Tatiana says.

"It was a grand celebration for Edinburgh. Everyone smiled when they saw the torch-carriers and wanted to take a picture with us, as if to be part of something sacred. After the relay, I was given the torch as a gift and now keep it at home for luck."

Evgeny Kozlov also has the torch which appeared to be a great gift for his birthday that he had ahead of the relay. “I was so happy to carry the torch across Scotland I can’t even describe my feelings,” says the blogger:

"When our bus arrived we were greeted as if we were superheroes or cosmonauts. Everyone was waving and tried to touch the bus. I felt very positive. During my 5-6 minute stops, people approached me and took pictures."

Among other Russian torch carriers were the Vancouver 2010 bronze champ, speed skater Ivan Skobrev, Vancouver snowboard winner Ekaterina Ilyukhina and three-fold synchronized swimming champion Maria Kiseleva. They all say that it was an unforgettable experience.

A total of 8,000 people will take part in the relay. On the Opening day the torch with the flame will go down the Thames to the London Olympic Stadium.

Zvonareva Confirmed for London Olympics

Russia’s Vera Zvonareva has been picked for the Olympic tennis tournament despite ongoing injury problems, the Russian Tennis Federation said Friday.

The other Russians confirmed for the Olympics are Maria Sharapova, who will carry the Russian flag at the opening ceremony, as well as Maria Kirilenko, Nadia Petrova, Elena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova.

Zvonareva announced her withdrawal from the French Open last month because of an injury to her right shoulder.

Svetlana Kuznetsova will join the women’s team in London as a potential replacement for any injured players, Russian tennis chief Shamil Tarpishchev said on the federation’s website. ------> Kuznetsova didn't accept it. She prefers not to be at the olympic games.

In the doubles event, Kirilenko will play with Petrova and Makarova will team up with Vesnina. The federation did not specify who would take the four singles berths.

In the men’s event, Mikhail Youzhny, Nikolay Davydenko, Alexander Bogomolov and Dmitry Tursunov have been selected.

The doubles pairs will be Youzhny and Davydenko, and Bogomolov and Tursunov.

Tarpishchev said Russia will name its mixed doubles pairs in the middle of Wimbledon, which starts June 25.

Former world No. 3 Nadia Petrova has returned to the top 20 in the new WTA rankings published Sunday.

The Russian rose two places to No. 20 in the highest-profile change.

Petrova’s stay in the top 20 could be brief, as the rankings will receive a major shake-up after Wimbledon, which starts Monday.

Petrova reached the fourth round of last year’s competition before losing to eventual champion Victoria Azarenka, and she will lose ranking points if she fails to repeat the performance.

"Kuznetsova didn't accept to be a reserve player at the Olympic game in London. "

That's messed up. Kuzi really needs to do some self-inventory.

Pavlyuchenkova is also qualified. Bet Nastia won't mind standing by if needed.

I hope Maria Sharapova will remember her childhood when she was 4 years old.

The Little Humpbacked Horse is the main character of a popular fairy-tale of the same name by Pyotr Yershov:  http://www.youtube.com/w...dTmo&feature=related

This horse comes from a russian story.

The famous Firebird pictured on the uniform of the Russian Olympic team will be replaced by the Little Winged Humpbacked Horse.

The Bosco Company has presented a new collection “Privet, London!” The fairy-tale prints and the abundance of red colour are expected to bring luck to the Russian athletes at the London 2012 Olympics.

The Little Humpbacked Horse is the main character of a popular fairy-tale of the same name by Pyotr Yershov. Designers added wings to the fairy-tale image, and now it resembles mythical Pegasus, whose silhouette has very much in common with the Latin letter “R”, which stands for Russia. The choice was not accidental because the pattern reflects the national culture of Russia and is very close to the residents of the host country of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

“We have created a special collection ‘Privet, London!’ ” The word “privet” is easily understandable, and an open palm shows that we are to compete without gloves and without double standards, the head of the company Bosco di Ciliegi Mikhail Kusnirovich says. “In the Russian fairy-tale the Little Humpbacked Horse can do miracles. It offers help in achieving good results but one should do some work of their own at first. We must change the design for every Olympic cycle, so we have made an effort to create something new that is also easily recognizable.”

Our collection includes 70 items – sports shirts, jackets, foot-wear, sports costumes, and all kinds of accessories. Fans clothes differ little from those of Russian athletes. Such a concept will unite all those who will arrive in London, including both fans and members of the national team. Besides, the red colour brings luck, the Russian speed skating champion Svetlana Zhurova says.

We are easily recognizable, and everybody wants to be photographed with us. We are so colourful that our rivals feel embittered, just a little. Pegasus is a fairy-tale character that bears relation to luck. As you know, athletes are superstitious, and we always believe in miracles. And we believe that our mascot Cheburashka (Topple) will bring us luck. The red colour helped the Soviet team, and will help the Russian athletes too. Just remember the Russian hockey players. Probably, the Russian national team will be called the “red machine” in London too.

The Bosco Company has also worked out a single equipment concept for Ukrainian and Spanish fans and teams.. All the three collections are based on national patterns, colours and prints. A Russian fan will pay approximately 500 dollars for a sports costume, shoes, a rucksack, and a cap from the new collection.

Excuse me, but THIS is the official thread for the Olympic Tennis Event & has been for months. I won't converse on the subject elsewhere.

There is some wailing elsewhere about Vika temporarily reassuming the big ol' (but it isn't) "number one". Should Masha win a medal, that'll be fixed quick-like.

This is interesting: A Gold Medal fetches 800 ranking points, and they don't all expire next year, only 200, then another 200 each year for four years. Silver & Bronze are lesser points but work the same way.

If Dementieva had insisted on remaining on the board instead of withdrawing from the rankings when she was about to slip from the top ten, all her points would have expired in a year EXCEPT her Olympic points. In fact, Elena would STILL show a ranking of 200 RIGHT NOW, until the end of the Tennis Event!

Just FYI.

Yeah, i was wondering why another Olympics topic had been made when we've had this one for months..... eh whatever

Lol #1 is more of a hindrance than a blessing, Vika can have it

Fact is, Paul, that you deliberately aimed this Thread at Team Russia. There are other teams and other news eminating from the Tennis Facet of the Olympics. The other Thread is being used for info That may not be specifically related to the Russians. Live with it.

Several "other threads' (some seem to have expired) got going about the time a little Brit twit decided I was a baaad man for liking... euw, Russian girls

I told you the masks were gonna come off over this thing. It's real simple: Fans of Team РОССИЯ--which happens to be led by Maria Sharapova  vs Western corporate ass-sucking country-club panderers who CLAIM they love Masha but HATE her country.

Glad to see ya back Philli Wan but I don't gotta live with nothing.  Y'all decide where you're at then we'll all know who you are. I'll be right over here.
