I dont know if starting on Wednesday is a good thing. It means she will be playing every day through til Sunday. A couple of tough 3 setters and she will be in no shape to take on a big gun.

Yeah....sad to see 2 great doubles partners go out so early. Kuzni & Pavli. I can't wait to watch someone whip Serena's butt soon. Why does she always play so late in the night??

So bummed about JJ. What's going on with her lately and she's losing on the early rounds?

It's far past two years that Craig Tiley illiegally finnessed the heat rule to save Serena's ass in Melbourne. Believe her resistance to heat & sun have gotten no better. Her sponsors will pull every string at every tournament to play her only at night wherever possible..

JJ was up against a strong upcomer. Görges hadn't done so well lately, so was even more determined to reassert herself. Ditto Halep v Kuzi. Hey, Stosur would've fallen to Morita if Ayumi had just a bit more will to keep the pressure on.

Interesting start. The very minimal degree of "design" that may have gone into the draw is probably already negated. A "preferred" result may demand outright official cheating on court that can't even be attempted with this much media exposure.

Keep an eye on results from "in the dark" matches--both those relegated to other courts & ones scheduled with only Canadian coverage, like Clijsters vs Zheng Jie tonight.

Hope deadchip can give us some call on that one in the Shoutbox

RAIN DELAY!  :pioggia: Eurosport replayed Stosur-Morita. Rain delay in Toronto continues at 13:30 EDT. Rain is still falling, though clouds are lighter. Eurosport now doing Voskoboeva def Bartoli. TTC will be in Montreal until Serena's match this evening.

Toronto Update (Sunday)

Posted on August 7, 2011

Maria will begin her Rogers Cup campaign on Wednesday night against either Jelena Dokic of Australia or qualifier Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia.

Maria was practicing on one of the outside courts today with Nadia Petrova, check out some photos here.

Thaz a kinda new combination, hunh? (Masha is known to practice with Zvonareva--but on Sunday, Vera was still in San Diego.) I like that.

Thanx, Valkyre

Wed Aug 10: Maria Sharapova vs Bojanna Jovanovski

The organizers intend to play Maria Sharapova first on Wednesday, August 10 (evening session) 19:00 EDT local (23:00 GMTmidnight in London). Looks like Europe will need streams other than Eurosport. I expect that TTC will show in the States. Probably  in Canada.

A couple of more videos with Maria training using strings. This is one amazing exercise to develop speed and explosion. I am using the same technique for basketball training. Pretty exhaustive exercise if you ask me but with very very good results.

Eurosport replaying Petkovic vs. Eugénie Bouchard for filler before Princess.

Dependent on weather: Julia Görges vs. Serena Williams (NB 15.00hrs EDT) TTC & Eurosport 2, repeat Eurosport 2. Should be good streams.

It`s going to be tough to eliminate Serena now that Kim is out,. She played very solid yesterday. Can't wait to see Maria on court, wonder about her serve!!

Best of luck Maria!!

I watched Serena play the first set last night. There was no competition. She was hardly made to run for the ball. The set was given to her on a plate. Let's hope Georges will give her a run for her money if nothing else. Come on! I want to see a 3 setter at least. She is NOT invincible.

Irrelevant to Masha, but Caroline Wozniacki lost to Roberta Vinci in straight sets. Caro was leading in the 2nd set 5-3. Vinci came back, winning 4 straight games to beat Wozniacki. Final score, 6-4 7-5 for Vinci. I was not watching the match, but the live scores, so I don't know why Caro slipped. Credit to Vinci though. She has been playing some great tennis this season. Wozniacki committed 4 aces but those were overshadowed by her 7 double faults. Wonder if this means if Caroline is going down the Dinara Safina Path and if she will fall in the rankings?

Bunny girl is out, her battery very low lately. She will lose many points , as she won Toronto  last year. She is lucky that Kim is out too, otherwise she might have lost her number 1 ranking. Think Caroline is a bit tired of playing tennis. Own fold, if you play 24/25 tournaments 4 years in a row the problems come by itself.  Ps; I'll hope Maria is not having too many difficulties with the hard wind blowing around court !  We know it will affect her tennis !!!
