She is quite an impressive player and on a good day can topple a top seed. Is she still wearing her trademark long socks?
Yup, combined with fluorescent red face paint and luminous yellow headband
She seems to be growing in stature with every tournament, i'd imagine she'll be one of a few the top seeds want to avoid at RG.
You talk about samurai, what Bethanie's coach told her at the tipping point in the first set was pure busihdo. Not quotes, but pretty much: Everything you do is right. When you just rip it, there is none better. Just swing away, Bethanie.
Silly old David Mercer was all, Well, that may be good psychology, but we'll see how yhat works out, eh wot?
I thought, no.
Not psychobabble. Man meant just what he said. When she misses, it's only by centimeters. No fear, no hesitation and it'll work.
It did.
You could cut the tension in that arena with a knife. Whenever Beth scored, you could hear a pin drop--except when Flavia got cited for audible obscenity, lol. Man, the Italians were pissed! The dark, glowering silence didn't faze Bethanie a bit.
I was seriously impressed.
