I hate when she is in Europe!!!! 3:00 am tomorrow for me!!! And I have to work Sunday! Well good to have her playin' again. Not the hardest draw and not the easiest draw. She should get thru the first round. The second looks pretty tough, as does the third with Kuzy a possibility, though I think she may go down to Cibulkova today, as she is behind a set right now. I think Cibulkova is also a very tough opponent for Masha on clay especially.Well good to be back around these parts again. Been busy following my boy Milos over on the men's side, who's been doing quite decently on clay so far, which is a bit surprising. He beat Simon today, but had to retire down a set to Verdasco in the semi later that day due to some back pain and tightness. Hope he's OK! Anyhow, blah, blah blah.....
GO MARIA!!!!!
Masha is my #1!!

That is going to be an early match ! The weather is not good in southern Europe . In northern Europe we have the best weather since a 100 years ! Sun , sun , sun !! No raindrop for 5 weeks now ! Can you believe that ?!!?!?
Maybe , maybe we will see that match tomorrow on Eurosport ?
By the way, I did survive our national bank holday , called Queensday. Was fun , sunny , very busy. About 1 million people came to Amsterdam , ppfffff !

Hey guys! I could watch the last game! I didn't know they were showint the match on TV, but I could watch it on Marca TV, a Spanish sports channel. I don't know what to think, I mean, she lost the first set 6-2. That's not good, especially taking into account that Cibulkova beat Kuznetsova so easily, I don't think Maria will go far, although I hope so. She looks pretty as always, she's wearing a yellow shirt and I don't remember if it was a brown skirt.

Glad she won.

Hey man.  Yeah. We were in the Shoutbox & Teddy found word of the MarcaTV. But the stream I saw mentioned required new software & I won't install on the fly...

Oh, I think not so shabby for first match on clay. Arantxa has played way better this year & the stats were not so bad. First serves getting in & only 3 Maria DFs.

Hope some of that gets on youtube.

Yeah I agree with Paul it was her first match on clay this year, so it takes a time to get used so I think that the fact that Maria went to a 3rd set today wasn't the worst thing of the world. Couldn't watch the match, but I read the stats and I'm happy that had just 3 DFs and that she was able to recover from a set down that is important to show fight spirt it makes her stronger. Also happy with Victoria Azarenka win 6-0 6-0, it was impressive. Now in LS following Caroline's match.

Yeah, I agree with you. I think it is great she "just" hit 3 doubles. From what I see in the stats it seems like she didn't serve badly. Let's hope that's the way she'll keep serving this week. But her next opponent could be really hard already and she surely has to improve. And remember the last match against Cibulkova. She almost got double-bageled. However, I love the fact she fought hard to avoid that and win two games, but it was painful to watch.

I really hope she can improve and beat Cibulkova. Dominika seems to be a really nice person but I want revenge, and I'm sure Maria does too.

Wicky or Katya Makarova. Then probably the Jackrabbit.

Kuzi & Vera Z won their first doubles match 61 75.

Sounded like a shaky start but stats looked good. Keep it up Maria! You can beat anyone.

It may be Katya. Makarova takes first set from Wicky 64.  Breaks to love & holds 42... (Katya has nine aces) Wicky holds 43.

Katya wins 64 64 in 1:10  Will play Masha next.

Great to see she managed to to come back and win this one! it's not surprising that she was not quite up to it at first as she had to adjust to the clay and hadn't played in almost a month! Well, Makarova next up. She can do it!!

Maria through to Madrid 2nd Round

Posted on May 1, 2011

Maria started her 2011 clay court campaign with a win today as she defeated Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands 2-6 6-3 6-2 at the the Mutua Madrid Open in Madrid, Spain.

The match lasted exactly 2 hours against the 99th ranked 20-year-old on the Manolo Santana Stadium.

After dropping the first set, Maria broke Rus three times in the second set. Maria then forced Rus from corner to corner with powerful groundstrokes as the Dutch player was eventually overwhelmed.  Maria won the match on her second match point when Rus netted a forehand.

In the 2nd round, Maria will play Ekaterina Makarova of Russia.  They have never played before.

Masha will play Katya tomorrow, Monday: Second match on Manolo Santana (Center Court)

Noon CEST Li Na v MJMS, followed by Sharapova v Makarova. Say 13:30-14:00 CEST.

Previously, Eurosport only scheduled a timeslot for the first match--Li Na vs Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. I can hardly conceive they won't extended that to show Maria, however.

IF NOT, I find now there WILL be "world feed" and LSH has already posted Masha

http://www.livescorehunter.com/index.php?option=com_lsh&view=lsh&event_id=47574&tv_id=411&tid=6290&channel=0&tmpl=component&layout=popup&Itemid=286

World feed will continue later with Petkovic v Parra Santonja on Stadium 3. Whether that will then stream Vika & the Russians remains to be seen.

UPDATE: myp2p.eu expects Eurosport 2 International to begin coverage with Masha's match. See http://www.myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matchid=114721&part=sports

Thanks, Paul. Europort is showing Li Na's match now and she has taken the first set so hopefully I can watch a bit of Maria until they finish transmission. Anyway one way or another we will be able to watch her play. Whoopi! I'll see you later in shoutbox when Maria plays. Just going to get some lunch first.

Today I watched it, and I happy with Maria's performance she served really well, I mean more consistently than she was doing in the last tournaments she played, she had a high percentage of first serves in. Now she is in the third round. GO MARIA!!!
