On the whole, yeah--though I suspect the pattern of probable meetings (like with Petrova in the 3rd round) are as much contrived as several others I see through the draw (Kirilenko-Radwanska again! I mean, gimme a break.)


But it is as I surmised this morning: HALF the Russians at Miami (inc Shvedova as a Russian) are crammed into Zvonareva's SECTION of the 3rd quarter--ASSIGNING WC Safina as Vera's first opponent. 


...it just happened that way...? 


Bullsh!t. 


Nobody can believe that anymore. You can spot a half-dozen other examples. This stuff is visibly contrived, malcious, and even petty. (1st round Makarova-Dushevina) And with three qualifier spots stacked up against Azarenka, god knows what they'll pull there.


But my hunch is the stitched draw is only half the story.  Expect Kerrilyn Cramer & perhaps Zhang Juan (aka Jennifer Zhang) in the chair for critical Russian matches. Too early to assume Masha has a level playing field.

Ok i don't get it. Miami official website says the following: "Note: Rankings positions are shown as of February 7, the entry deadline for the tournament. (Tournament seedings are based on rankings as of March 21".

Based on this why is Masha seeded #16 instead of #11 ? anyone ?

That would've put her where Kuzi is--and WTA wants those two Russians, if necessary, to self-eliminate in the quarters. lol!

I hate checking the draw but ooks ok. I hope Maria will one day able to play a good level of tennis so we don't have to worry who on the other side of the net.


Unfortunately it's not the case ....for now anyway. Her physical strength is simply not there yet.

Yes you are right. 


Masha can improve her tennis. As I said before she should play patiently with precision. She should control her serves and always win when she serves. Second serve should be softer and she has to use a technic and strategy to win. 


You can't only serve stronly and win a game. Even if the best players have an excellent serve, they have to play a good tennis on the court using the right strategy against their opponent. A tennis match is like a chess game but u have also to be prepared physically.

The draw seems pretty good for Maria.
But to come through she needs to improve a lot.
She has to work on her serve and she needs her big weapon back: aces.

I agree. Doesn't matter who Maria's opponent is. She HAS to improve on her first serves to beat even a qualifier. Nowadays unseeded players are the most dangerous.

I have a personal affinity with Russia, true, and boost all the Russian players. But specifically, for our purposes here:


Maria is a member of Team Russia--an identification that will intensify as we move toward next year's Olympiad.


She is NOT immune to WTA & tennis media's pronounced bias against Russians. The dirty tricks they ran against Dementieva, Safina, and now Zvonareva can rub off on Sharapova as well. 


ANY draw that contains a distinct "Russian Section" or "Russian Quarter" is corrupt & contrived from the outset. That the Miami "draw" did not shove her into the Russian ghetto doesn't mean there isn't something up the crooks' sleeves.

But if the big weapon doesn't work, she has to find another weapon. You can't win all the matches with aces only. You have to use different weapons, different strategies and technics.


Today the big weapon doesn't work well, and this weapon forces her to make many double faults.


Masha should use a new weapon, the second serve should be less strong and she has to use the right strategy on the court to defeat her opponent.  When she serves she should win the point not only with an ace. It is important.
