Philli Wan was disappointed with The Princess's performance.  It seems as though The Power of the Serve has deserted her.   Master Yuri had turned her over to a former Jedi, Master Thomas, who was to take her on as his new Padawan.  He knew there was a lot to do before The Princess Maria would regain her confidence, but he never backed away from a challenge.  'The Serve will be with you, always', he told the Princess, 'You must believe in yourself''.   'I'll try', replied The Princess.  'No', answered Master Thomas, 'Do or not do, there is no try'.


Okay, for those who remember, we used to have fun a couple of years ago with this topic...Remember 'The Umpire Strikes Back', hehehe, one of my favorites.


Anyway, I thought it was time to make a new Thread for Miami, so if you like it, here it is.

Yes, goos idea to start fresh! and this is a positive from your part!


Again don't expect much from her in Miami. I just hope she can serve well and less error would be more than enough, go slow but play consistent is what matter at this point.


Let's concentrate the efforts for next month's tournaments: Madrid asnd Stuggart

You can forget Stuttgart. Maria will be in the Bahamas with Gisela Dulko doing an exhibition match on the weekend when the Tournament starts.

Maria has never played in Germany ! So first European tournament is Madrid and then Rome !

The idea of her playing two big tournaments back to back still seems pretty novel, i'm just enjoying watching her compete again.


Sounds kinda melancholy and contemplative but we dont know for sure how long her career's gonna last, ofcourse hopefully many more years but either way im just going to enjoy every match from now on. Win or lose. I agreed with myself and Nicole i wouldnt have any real expectations for this year, so i'll just see what happens and wish her good luck :-)

Yes that's true. It's definitely good to see some changes. It's gonna take some time and even though it seems we've been waiting for past 3 years I am sure she's gonna come back once. We'll see what happens this season :)

I dontttttttt think we'll know for sure until tomorrow but it's gotta be higher than IW, i'd imagine around 11/12 :-)

Masha will be seeded 10 ( including Kim and azarenka playing Miami), if those 2 are not playing Mahsa will be seeded 8


PS: Kim said on her Twitter that she practiced today but without serving ...and that she will have a chat with her coach and doctor .. so a decission will follow soon

Maria's ranking tomorrow will be 13th, so she will probably be seeded 11th. She will get a Bye in the first round anyway.

she did well in IW, only her errors caused her to lose..she'll be doin good in miami..lets go!!!

Maria will be the number 13 in the ranking next week, so I think she will probably be seeded 11th, it depends if Victoria and Kim will recover on time to play, I think they will.

Yes. Barring a real problem during practice, I'd think they will both start--so the draw should be as expected.


Keep in mind, Miami has been known for draw hanky-panky.  But we shall see.

just making a small correction .... YES Masha is ranked #13 not #10 as i sad in my earlier post. Sorry for the wrong info just skipeed some players :) .. anyhow Masha will be seeded either 11th or  in the best case scenario 9th ( including here Kim and Azarenak not playing)


And about Miami beeing known as having a "cheet draw" i can agree to some extent .. but in the end it doesn't matter who you play .. if u are good and strong u can win no matter how the draw looks like right?....

Re "cheet-sheet": That is prevailing wisdom. In fact, it's the rationale we hear from Maria & any other top players when they get a "draw" they don't dare to question. But after we've seen something as flagrant as the "wildcard" Henin targeted to help drive Dementieva from the game--we dunno what will happen next in the crooked venues.


I still think WTA is more likely to target the top Russian, Zvonareva, right now, but I could be wrong. (If the young Arab players were already contending, they might go to the top of the hit-list.)


Draw-riggers are closely linked with the trash-talkers. At this moment, commentariat try to persuade us they want to see Masha back at the top. They assume all fans have the memory of fruit-flies & forget the three solid years (05 thru 07) when they slandered her every time they opened their mouths. Only after she was down late in 08 did they change their tune.
