For all their proficiency on clay, the Spanish women may be less a presence at RG this year.

You never know what you'll get with Anabel Medina Garrigues anymore & Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez has a knee injury that kept her outta play this week.

On Wednesday, Carla Suarez Navarro took a possibly severe ankle injury at Fez. Intense pain & they had to take her off the court on a gurney. [:(]

See how Sam does against Justine tomorrow. She wasn't playing all that great today. If the new Russian had not succumbed to nerves at critical points, Sam could've easily lost either of those sets. Still, that's much of what these tournaments are for--to get ready.

Sam did pretty good until she failed to withstand the heightened pressure Justine put on her serve in the 3rd.

Re the Masha discussion: IMO there's no doubt Maria will play Roland Garros, whatever the deal with Madrid. If she wasn't going to the FO, there would be no point in entering Strasbourg--same as her confirmation for Birmingham Aegon is preparatory for Wimbledon.

Come on Maria! I really want her to get the Career Slam like Roger.

And I mean..she made it to the QFs when she was just coming back from injury. She can do better this year!

You're not looking at the facts and Maria's track record.   Madrid and Strasbourg back to back AND THEN straight to RG the following week!!!  There is no way she can maintain a schedule like that...she has never been able to in the past..  Most likely that she will do Madrid, pull out of Strasbourg, and rush off to Paris early to try on her new earrings.

And as regards winning RG.... Forget it.  With Justine, Kim and Serena there, Maria doesn't even come into the ranks of possible.

You don't get it Philli. Yes she can handle this schedule.

Madrid: ousted in 1rst round

Strasbourg: upset in 2nd round

RG: 3 rounds and then "in vacation"

See? 6 matches in 3 weeks, It's possible! And enough to show her clay-season outfits. Just to honor her endorsement. [:P]

Do you know which date the rankings will be taken for seeding players at the roland garros, cause if maria is 12th she will play someone from 5-8th seeded players, and if she is 13th seeded she will have to play someone who will be 1-4th seed?will it be the rankings after rome or after madrid

Youre kinda making it seem as if playing two warmup tournaments for RG is a horrid thing. After all, Serena's only playing two as well. Don't forget the clay court season is short so there's not much time to prepare for RG...

"I
landed in Madrid last night, (bumpy flight) I had a good practice on
site today, it was nice and quiet at the facility. I have a cool event
tomorrow with Sony Ericsson after my morning practice. I will keep you
updated."
