Robby's trailing in the 3rd set 5-3.  She has to break to stay in the match.

Yeah I thought she wouldn't be, British players tend to be great on grass, good on hard courts and not so good on the damn clay. [:(]

Robson handed wild card

Reigning junior champion Laura Robson has been given a wild card
entry into the main draw of this year's Wimbledon Championships.

The
15-year-old was handed a wild card even though her world ranking is
below the Lawn Tennis Association's cut-off point of 250 for such
awards.

The LTA made her inclusion possible by adding a special clause to their wild card recommendation policy.

The
clause states that, in exceptional circumstances, junior players can be
put forward for privileged entries whatever their ranking, which paved
the way for Robson's inclusion.

The starlet, who has a senior ranking of 482, will become the youngest player at Wimbledon since Martina Hingis in 1995.

Also
handed wild card entries were British men Alex Bogdanovic, Daniel
Evans, Josh Goodall and James Ward, the latter pair having lost in the
AEGON Championships at Queen's Club on Monday.

Robson will be joined in the ladies singles by fellow Britons Elena Baltacha, Katie O'Brien, Melanie South and Georgie Stoop.

Following
her stunning victory in the girl's singles last year as the youngest
player in the tournament, Robson would automatically have been given a
wild card into qualifying for the main draw.

The teenager
continued her grand slam success by reaching the girl's final at the
Australian Open but she was beaten in the second round of the French
Open last week.

Youngest girl in 14 years!!! Congratulations Laura :) Best of luck, i'm sure she'll reach the semis at least ;)

Maybe even a Laura - Maria final?? :D haha

That's the All England Club. [H] They do what they want--if not possible, they make it possible. Fortunately, those old gentlemen generally do the right thing. Glad to see Laura in the draw!

Congratulations Laura.  I am assuming that by playing in the main draw she will not be allowed to play Juniors, I don't know but maybe it would have been better to carry on playing Juniors where she has a real chance of winning, but I suppose this is a great opportunity to be in the main draw of a Grand Slam, so who wouldn't take it.  Anyway she knows what she's doing.  Good Luck Laura - try your best, hope you don't get drawn against one of the top seeds in the first round.

No, she can play both. Up to the age of, I think, 17 a boy or girl can play both at the same tournament. The theory is that most will go out of the main draw in the first or second round, so most often the Juniors haven't even started before they're at liberty. In the event that she did move farther in the main draw, she would probably drop from the Juniors.

Oh thanks Paul, well that's great news then!  I bet she will get drawn against Masha or JJ though, if that happens I am gonna be seriously upset.  It would be so funny if she got drawn against Venus though, after her comments about 'taking her down' last year.  Well hopefully she will get a good draw.  Good Luck Laura.

Aw, Laura will be happy just to be there. Unless she'd lucked out & drawn a qualifier, we know Laura isn't ready to beat most of these main draw players. First round, second, doesn't matter. It's a learning experience and Dani presents a pretty good one. Think about it--Dani is no power player by any means, but she's quite clever & learned discipline & patience. May be just the one for a youngster to confront. [H]

I don't think it's a bad draw, it'll be a great experience for her, no doubt she'll approach it with typical teenage naivety and confidence and if she loses at least she still has the juniors to fall back on...

Yeah, I was hoping she would draw a qualifier, but yeah you're right, I suppose she was gonna meet a top player sooner or later anyway, I just really wanted her to have an easy opening round match. [:(]  Oh well hopefully she will put up a good fight against Dani.

Laura's on Court 2 tomorrow, thank God!!!  I was so sure she would get put on Court 1 and I wouldn't get to see her.  Hopefully I will go and watch her match, if my friend agrees to see it, I don't think anyone she likes is playing at the same time so it should be fine!  Good Luck Laura - put up a fight!!!  Hopefully she will have a lot of support, it will be interesting to experience the atmosphere first hand.
