Piquet Jr. slams selfish Alonso

© Ubaid Parkar (Sportz Interactive), 17 August 2010

© Renault F1

Nelson Piquet Jr. came forth with his views on his ex-Renault teammate Fernando Alonso after the controversy of the German Grand Prix. Felipe Massa,
like compatriot Piquet Jr., was subject of the wrath of Brazilian fans
and media after he was involved in letting the Spaniard win in an
unsporting manner.

Piquet Jr. was too was involved in a similar incident when he crashed his car deliberately in the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix,
at the behest of his team, to let Alonso win through a pre-determined
strategy. “I was a young driver, I was learning and I got into Alonso’s
team,”
Piquet Jr. told Istoè Independente. “He had been champion twice
with Renault and Flavio Briatore, the team boss, was his best friend.
He had all the attention.”

After the ‘crashgate’ scandal was exposed, both Renault team
principal Flavio Briatore and executive director of engineering Pat
Symonds were found guilty and banned from the sport.

“I regret what I’ve done, but I was not disappointed with F1,” he
added. “I had put myself in a difficult situation, between a dictator
(Flavio Briatore) and Alonso, who they try to compare with Dick
Dastardly, but he is very good, very fast and smart.”

He went onto clarify that the two-time world champion was “extremely
focused” and sly during his tenure with the French manufacturer.

“He is sufficiently smart to be nice to you and earn your trust and
then, in the race, he does not help you,” the 25-year-old explained.

“He works with the team, is always anticipating other car’s
strategies and is extremely focused on what matters to him. He always
wants more, asks for more, goes after it, is a pain in the ass and, if
he is strong inside the team, he gets everything.

“I did the same, but I was young and people just couldn’t bother,” he concluded. [/quote]

quite funny, both Brazilians were involve with Nano's controversy, poor Nano he is always in the mid. of likely to be a champion that's why his joined teams giving up his own teammate for him to secure a point for championship, ahh,,,, poor Piquet Jr. a debutant turned into disaster...

much luck to the Ferrari in Belgium! make a clear race team! hahaha

Vettel underestimated Webber says Berger

© Ubaid Parkar (Sportz Interactive), 20 August 2010

© Red Bull Racing

Gerhard Berger, who used to own half of the Toro Rosso team until 2008, has pointed out that Sebastian Vettel did not take into account his teammate’s challenge going into the season.

Vettel, who earned his Formula 1 victory under the aegis of Berger,
has clinched seven pole positions in twelve outings so far but has
managed to collected only two wins. Webber on the other hand has four
poles and as many wins and is leading the championship.

“He is incredibly mature,” Berger said about Vettel to Auto Motor
und Sport. “It is true he is still making mistakes, but I put that in
the category of lacking experience. His biggest problem is that he
probably underestimated Mark Webber.”

Both the Red Bull drivers collided against each other fighting for the lead in the Turkish Grand Prix
which set the precedent to the whole teammate rivalry issue in the
camp. The German driver retired from the race whereas the Australian
managed to finish in third.

Berger also looked back at Nico Rosberg’s
season so far stating that he needs a competitive car to start
challenging in the front. “For me, Nico is on par with Vettel,” the ex-McLaren and Ferrari
driver explained. “He just needs the right car now to begin winning. He
has shown this year that he makes very few mistakes, that his set-up is
usually right and that he is mostly ahead of Michael Schumacher.”

Rosberg has comprehensively beaten Schumacher so far this season,
with the former even collecting three podiums on the way. “If Rosberg
and Vettel were sitting in identical cars, I would not know who to put
my money on,”
he added.

The Austrian assessed Adrian Sutil
as well stating, “Last year, I was laughing at (Sutil). I would never
have believed he has this much potential. His speed is tremendous, and
his mistakes have reduced dramatically.
For me, with Rosberg, he is the
surprise of the season.”

The Force India driver is placed among the veterans of the sport in tenth, with three points behind Schumacher and five points ahead of Rubens Barrichello.

“He is in a learning phase,” the 50-year-old observed. “He makes
many more mistakes than Vettel and Rosberg did when they began, but
Sutil was the same. “

very true indeed! Vettel seems really underestimating Mark's potential although Mark is not really 100% great in race because as you'll observe him he usually started at pole but ending third ..2nd or even not in podium finisher! but Mark still managed to gain point in every races especially during race at Turkey! beating Vettel with a 0 points. With regards to Adrian, i think he's a great driver! i've seen how Kimi demolished his (first) potential to gain a point in Monaco way back 2008 when Kimi accidentally bumped his front wing to Sutil's car ending Sutil out of the race. He had a great season last year!  Nico also surpasses veteran Schumi in most of the races, and agreed with what Berger's statement that if only Nico and Vettel have the same quality of car then i bet Nico is also a threat to Vettel!

See? how Germans rule the Formula One?! lol

BORING??? It's all racers favorite circuit and at least something happens. Every year again and again. Why do u think Bernie Ecclestone asks only 30-40% off what others have to pay? HE NEEDS RACES LIKE FRANCHORCHAMPS or do u prefer the Hungaroring & Co? THINK TWICE(note i don't defend this 'cos i live in Brussels, and Francorchamps is in Wallooncountry) Boring...crazy or what?[8-)]

From now on it's between Hamilton and Webber. Could be decided in the final G.P.(i hope).

if they are, then Hamilton surely wins! [6] see how Webber messed up on his own opportunities! being in pole ending up behind the podium finisher! but don't assume that Lewis and Mark will be the final contenders. Everything can still happen in Ferrari's home race, and if Nano secure a place on top and his contenders will somewhat in trouble which is not an isolated case. He still has a chance to grab the title. Take note there is still 6 more races to go! and the competition is still on! we can't stick to just Webber and Lewis. Recall what happened when Nano and Lewis haven't even thought of Kimi as a great contender of the title! which everything turned to Kimi's favor after that lovely Japanese GP and quite "funny" incident brought Lewis out of the race stucked up in the sand (side of the pit lane). Then he went trouble in Brazil , while Nano wasn't able to match up Kimi's points to at least ONE point. Think about that [;)]

Chandhok tests out new Korean track

India's Karun Chandhok has become the first man to drive a Formula 1 car at a new race track in South Korea.

The HRT F1 driver steered a Red Bull car around the circuit in the southwestern county of Yeongam on Saturday ahead of the Korean Grand Prix scheduled for Oct. 24. Yeongam is located about 236 miles (380 kilometers) southwest of Seoul.

"It's an interesting circuit," he said after his test run of the 3.48-mile (5.6-kilometer) track, according to Yonhap news agency.

Chandhok competed in the season's first 10 Grand Prix races for Spanish team HRT before being replaced by Japanese driver Sakon Yamamoto for the past two and last month's Belgian Grand Prix.

Kim Jae-ho, an official of event organizers KAVO, said the venue is more than 90 percent complete and will be completed within this month. He said an inspection date of the venue by the world governing body of motor sports is still being worked out.

This track is much interesting! I also heard the Indian GP will be added in the schedule probably next year?. What can you say bout this one (ha) ? [;)] hope they will not rid of street races like Singapore and Monaco GP because of this new tracks[:p]

You're kinda right! MotoGP is much challenging than driving an f1 car. And yeah agree with you the one who actually made this thread maybe had a mistake in naming this thread it should be "motorsports" btw i am still bidding for Valentino as the champion but he have some problems this season (ex. accident and injury) that gave way to Jorge to extend his lead! I've also heard that he will be joining F1 of Ferrari..what can you say bout that?
