IMG Academies, which houses Maria Sharapova’s alma mater Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, is partnering with Dubai Lifestyle City to set up the first branch of the famed academy outside the United States. Until recently, Sharapova lived most of the year near the IMG training facility in Bradenton.

I know enough of it, it's almost every month on tv, but just because it's all about money and tourism, that's something that I just dont like about it.

and yes nobody said that she is going to live there but somebody here asked that.

SIGHTING: Maria Sharapova helps launch Dubai Lifestyle City, speaks out on recent tennis controversies

Despite her epic loss in the WTA Championships to Justine Henin this past weekend, the tennis supernova known as Maria "Shriek"apova flew to Dubai to help launch Dubai Lifestyle City, a lifestyle project based in Dubailand sprawling over an area of four million square feet. The City will include JW Marriott, IMG Academies (including the first non-US branch of the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy), Cisco and Microsoft. Tony Ashai, the celebrated Beverley Hills designer, has designed Dubai Lifestyle City in the famed Tuscany style of architecture, reminiscent of the renaissance.

During the press conference, a sympathetic-sounding Maria had this to say on the recent controversies fighting to taint the sport:

"All of us make mistakes, but each of us need to work hard enough to keep the sport clean of all these unwanted things, [...] The WTA Tour is very competitive and all of us work very hard to be where we are based on our level of play. Unfortunately, not all of us are perfect, and we all make mistakes."

Not so much. Thanks to Shrapi for launching this thread and the rest of you for following up. The info makes a lot come clear. If y'all haven't heard about the Dubai building boom, search it on the Net. It's incredible almost to the point of bizarre.

The Emiratis romance every name player who come to the city. They've had some success. If I'm not mistaken, Srebotnik, the Slovene player, has lived there for a while now. But I wouldn't get exercised about Maria moving there. That's press running with the noises the stars make at every major stop. ("I love NYC most", "Paris is the greatest city", "Melbourne is paradise on earth", etc, etc. They must keep lists to avoid giving the same praise to different cities--each time implying they'd rather live there. [;)] That's public relations.)

As regards Maria's involvement in Dubai development, we only need to see three letters: IMG, the giant sports/fashion multicorps who have represented Maria along with other top names for years. (See, business-wise, Masha's sports and fashion interests have always been in the same basket. [:P]) International Management Group, which began as an American sports and modeling agency, acquired Bollettieri's Academy a few years back.

So now they've jumped into the mix with Microsoft, Cisco, and the other multicorps with money to burn, underwriting the furtherance of Dubai. Thus, we see megastar Maria's name embellishing a subdivison in which they have an interest. I'm visualizing "Legends of Tennis" condos--a residential real estate gambit that's been used in the States (usually in association with golf) for decades. lol

Fascinating stuff. [H]

Maybe after that very long game she went in the A.C or cooled too fast and her body didnt assimilated the rough temperature change and thats why she has that cold. I hope she cna get well soon enough becuase she is going to Dubai where it its infernal hot and ltos of sand. Her doodle was exellent and yes, Eggs with  potatoes are exellnt, its the Spanish Toritilla, amazing i can say.

Ski Dubai in Dubai Emirates Mall started in December 2005 is the worlds third largest indoor ski slope, measuring 400 meters and using 6000 tons of snow. Ski Dubai resort is the first Dubai indoor ski slope to open.

A second Dubai indoor ski slope is the Dubai Sunny Mountain Ski Dome in Dubailand which is due to open in 2008. It will provide a great attraction, featuring a revolving ski slope, an artificial mountain range, an ice bridge, a cable lift, a snow maze, an ice slide, polar bears cold water-aquaria and special sound and light effects.
