She made headlines today in newspapers and sports-homepages

because of her time violation penalty

" I felt a bit sick, so I had to go to the toilet,” she said.

She said: In future she will take a bathroom break before her own service game.

She should, yeah. 'Specially with an opponent like Barbora, whose panties are so tight anyway, they'll get in a bunch over anything... [;)] I do think Infanger was being a bit thick. Like the Eurosport commentators, I assumed it was "that time of the month", which can't always get addressed in 20 seconds, y'know?

It did seem to me that Ana was pretty much fist-pumping only for her own winners. [Y] Perhaps her coach or someone has gotten thru to her how bad that looks when she celebrates the opponent's errors. She's in better physical shape & her game has improved--though I'm still not seeing all that great "confidence" the commetators gush about. Fact is, I think she's STILL always playing one notch away from meltdown. We will see.

^  Ana did well today ag. Georges, just end of first set was unconvincing cos she relaxed a bit,but in the second set she regained control and won, fully deserved to win,ofc she still needs to do a lot of things ,she has much to improve, but anyway her progress in recent months is obvious...

p.s. Paul,please check your pm/inbox area

I can't believe she got her first tournament victory since 2 years. Maybe her coach is helping her.

Good for Ana. [H] And I agree--no question that Heinz Gunthardt is a big plus for her.

That idjit Bowers went nuts, of course, visualizing total world domination or whatever, but most Eurosport commentators made the correct appraisal, I thought, of a good, solid top-twenty performance at this point.

That said, Ana scraped out key points in her quaterfinal & semifinal with netcord luck & random line judges robbing opponents of their winners by repeatedly shouting out bad calls. (Those were overturned, yeah, but that "replay the point" rule needs to be changed. Umpires are reticent to throw a judge off the court & a bad one can keep on screwing up with impunity.) Bottom line: those wins were not "convincing", as they say.

Well Ana had a pretty solid performance in the final. In most of it i was getting the feeling like she had somewhere to be after the match at the speed she was playing ... but really, it was some undeniably delightful play, even if Patty didn't get to put much of a fight [;)]. I think it was a good performance throughout the tournament and really a well deserved title.

And i know Ana can seem to be playing one notch away from meltdown, and i don't really care if she won't be a top player again. I can even see how some people might think or say competitive tennis doesn't even suit her really (referring to the mental side ofc) . But as long as she has this desire to play she will always be able to produce great performances and graceful victories. The tension and emotion in her play adds to this to; just like her determination, witch she never lacked.

So big congrats to Ana for winning the Linz title, and ya, good job to her team also (Heinz wasn't there), they seem to be doing good progress.

Hope to see more of this Ana on court [:)]

Ana is also playing doubles at Luxenbourg with Yanina Wikmayer. They advanced to the 2nd round.

I can think of quite a few people that would love to partner the Big Ballerina.[A]
