OK so I am guessing not many people know who Laura Robson is - she is a 14 year old British female tennis player!! [:D]  Anyway, she is a very good player and she won the Wimbledon Junior Girls title this year!!  [Y]  I am sure she is gonna be a really great player, well she already is, but I am sure she will get even better, so I thought I would make a thread for her!! [:)]

I know most people probably won't care about her, apart from me and Tom, cos we are British, so Tom you better write something on this thread!!  Hehe!

Good Luck Laura!! [:D]

Actually, on Wimbledon Live this year, I saw Laura's semi, final, and a doubles match. [H] Thanx for the thread. I would like to learn more.

Best Laura R quote I heard: Re Venus -- "I'll bring her down!" lol!

There will be more and more Laura's in the future. Since last year the Brits installed a special "youthprogram" with the former Belgian Fed-topcoach at the head. In a few years his young pupils will swarm out over the international tenniscourts. Patience Dee, they're on the highway[H]

Here is a picture of Laura in case anyone doesn't know what she looks like:

Yeah you're right!!  I read about this yesterday - here is the article:

Robson handed Luxembourg wildcard

Laura Robson
Robson does not turn 15 until 21 January 2009

Wimbledon junior champion Laura Robson has been handed a wildcard entry into her first tournament on the main WTA Tour, in Luxembourg from 20 October.

The 14-year-old Londoner will feature in the world rankings for the first time on Monday after playing her third senior event, in Barnstaple, this week.

Robson lost 6-7 (8-10) 6-4 6-2 to Germany's Angelique Kerber in the first round in Devon on Wednesday.

She is set to enter the world list at around the 560 mark.

Olympic gold medallist Elena Dementieva and former Wimbledon champions Lindsay Davenport and Amelie Mauresmo have also entered the Fortis Championships.

After playing in Luxembourg, Robson will then return to junior competition and prepare for January's Australian Open.

Her three professional tournaments so far have all been on the International Tennis Federation's circuit, which is at a lower level than the main tour.

She made her senior debut in Limoges, France, in September and also competed in Shrewsbury before her appearance in the Barnstaple Open.

Robson won her first match in France but her best performance came in Shrewsbury, where she beat three opponents to reach the semi-finals.

The teenager then lost in three sets to Kerber, the world number 143, in her first match in Barnstaple.

"I gave everything I had and the result didn't come out as I wanted," said Robson. "Angelique defended well and maybe I didn't give myself the best chance, but all credit to her."

Kerber said: "It was a very tough match and the first set and tie-break were extremely close.

"Laura played very well today, she made no mistakes and she forced me to play every point. It was a good win for me."

Yayyyyy!!  I hope she can win a couple of matches in Luxembourg!! [:)]

And yeah Nicole I agree!!  I think Laura is gonna be really successful, but I hope she will be able to handle the pressure cos I know when she starts moving up the rankings all the media over here will start going mad, and there will be a lot of pressure on her!!  But I am sure she will deal with it fine!!

Good Luck Laura in Luxembourg!! [:D]

Yes, she is! Wildcard--how cool. Thanx. [H] Elena heads the draw so I'll be looking for streams. Maybe we'll see her.

Here is what the FORTIS site shows so far. I'll post on Live Streams later:

RTL: Friday 24th: all 1/4 finals; Saturday 25th: both 1/2 finals; Sunday 26th : Final LIVE

Luxembourg RTL is typically available via Windows media player. I have one working portal I'll post later.

Eurosport: Sunday 26th: Final LIVE

ESPN Star: (Broadcast in Asia)  Friday 24th: all 1/4 finals; Saturday 25th: both 1/2 finals; Sunday 26: Final LIVE

Now, look here: "New: Live broadcasting of all matches" at  http://www.thesportsman.tv/ I can't yet make out what this consists of from the existing page. I don't know if it's something you have to join or what. Y'all see if you can figure it out. [H]

At least she took that first set, and Iveta didn't bagel her or anything. Losing to Benesova is about like losing to Cibulkova (frequent rivals). I'd have preferred she'd gotten through to face Chaki but there's no shame in this debut.

I think they've reset some of these forums to delete inactive threads... Wickmayer will meet Groenefeld then Mauresmo. She has a chance to get to the quarters (where it's probably Lenochka. [:P]...)
