 Yelena Vesnina has eliminated her Italian rival Alberta Brianti within the framework of a major tennis tournament currently under way in Auckland, New Zealand. Vesnina’s fellow tennis player, Maria Kirilenko, prevailed over German counterpart Tatjana Malek earlier in the day. In another development on Tuesday, local hope Marina Eracovic yielded to Alize Cornet of France, while Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi upset her Chinese rival Li Na. This week will see encounters between Vesnina and Cornet plus Kirilenko and Kanepi. The ASB Classic tournament offers 220,000 dollars in prize money.

Dartagnan: Can you expand on that? That acquaintence is altogether unknown in the States.


Again I will ask you to please change the name of this thread. There is no good reason to cop Lenochka's nickname or create confusion between the two girls. You can change a thread name by "Edit" of the first message, the message you started it with.


I am a fan of Vesnina. I watched her play that match yesterday thru www.planetstream.tv . She looked great & played great. I would like to participate on this thread but the confusing name troubles me.


Okay! [H] That works--thank you so much. I like the Yelena transliteration anyway. I've pointed out to people here that is how the Russian name is pronounced.


Vesnina lost to Cornet 16 16 in 1:13. [:|] So she's still running hot & cold. The match I watched her play yesterday, she was playing fine. Just takes time.

I also gotta say--aside from her excellent qualities, of course--Vesnina could make a small fortune off-court with a particular endorsement: I dunno who makes her sports bra, but I've never seen one do that before, no matter how remarkable the endowments. She and the company can really clean up by marketing that globally with her pictures. Believe me, the country-club women will ALL want that item! [8-|]
