Roger in semis

Roger reached the semifinal of the German Open Tennis Championship in Hamburg with a 7-6(4), 3-6, 7-5 victory over Florian Mayer today.

It was hard work for Roger all the way, he won the tie-break of the first set had to drop the second. In the third set, he scored a break twice to take a lead but the German broke back at both occasions. Roger finally went on to close the match, holding serve after another break in the end after exactly 2 hours of play.

Roger will now play Argentina's qualifyer Federico Delbonis (ATP 114) in Saturday's semis.

Good luck Maestro

Roger is back at the Crédit Agricole Suisse Open in Gstaad.

After a first round bye and seeded as No. 1, Roger will try to repeat his 2004 victory in the Swiss mountains.

In his first match, Roger will meet the winner of the match between Daniel Brands and his friend Marco Chiudinelli. In the quarter final, he could play Spain's Bautista Agut before a meeting with Argentia's Juan Monaco is likely in the semis. In the final, a Swiss encounter with Stanislas Wawrinka could be possible.

Djokovic, Nadal, Murray Lead Top Class Montreal Field As Federer Withdraws
Roger Federer has been forced to withdraw from next week’s Coupe Rogers in Montreal. The Swiss won the Canadian ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown in 2004 and 2006. Writing on his Facebook page, he said, “I am disappointed not to be playing in Montreal next week. It is a great tournament with amazing fans. I look forward to competing there in the future.”

The 31-year-old Federer admitted after a surprise loss last week at the Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad that he had been struggling with a back problem, but added, “I’m positive and I felt that it was getting better during the last few days.” He is due to return to action at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, where he is the defending champion.

The Coupe Rogers boasts a very strong field, with Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal all set to return to action in their first tournament since Wimbledon. The Montreal event, one of two ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in the Emirates Airline US Open Series, will see the battle heat up for year-end World No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal, a winner of seven tour-level titles this year, currently leads the race, followed by Djokovic and Murray.

Between them, Djokovic, Murray and Nadal have won the Canada title seven times. Djokovic is the two-time defending champion and is bidding to win the title for the fourth time, having also triumphed in 2007, which was the second trophy he won in his collection of 14 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crowns.

Murray titled in 2009-10, while Nadal lifted the trophy in 2005 and 2008. The Spaniard is looking to win his 25th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown and fourth of the season, following victories in Indian Wells, Madrid and Rome.
