One of the best doubles-teams sadly ousted...

Sad for you that they are gone, but here is an amazing stat.  Of the singles and doubles matches being played on Saturday among the men and women, there are an astounding five (5) Canadians in the semi-finals !!  What a boost to Rogers and tennis in Canada.

DOUBLES FOR OLIVE & SREBOTNIK !!!

TORONTO, Canada - At a tournament where all of the best teams in the world were in the draw, it was the unseeded pairing of Jelena Jankovic and Katarina Srebotnik that came out on top, upsetting three seeded teams en route to the Premier-level doubles championship at the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Jankovic and Srebotnik played their first tournament together just last week in Carlsbad, making it to the semifinals - and this week they went all the way to the title, upsetting No.6 seeds Liezel Huber and Nuria Llagostera Vives and No.4 seeds Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears en route to the final, then taking out No.3 seeds Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Kveta Peschke for the title, 57 62 106.

"It's been a lot of fun playing with JJ - she's really a fun person on and off the court," Srebotnik said. "And we've done so well together. I think we exceeded both our expectations these last two weeks. We didn't think when we entered Carlsbad that we would do semis there and win here. We both performed some great, great tennis throughout the week this week, and we're extremely happy to win this."

"It's amazing playing with Kata - she's really amazing at what she does," Jankovic said after the match. "I'm learning from her. I learned a lot this week. It was a pleasure playing these tournaments with her - we made the semifinals last week, and winning the tournament this week was really very special.

"But Kata should get a lot of the credit for this, and I'm very grateful to her."

Srebotnik, a former World No.1 doubles player who dazzled the fans with some risky - and successful - plays on the pressure points, won her 34th WTA doubles title and will now return to No.4 in doubles.

Jankovic, a former No.1 singles player who was already at her career-high doubles ranking of No.38, will now rise to a new high of No.25 after winning the second WTA doubles title of her career.

"I'm happy to win my second doubles title in my career, and I think I'm going to reach a career-high doubles ranking too!" Jankovic added. "It's quite exciting because it's something new for me. I play singles, that's where I play best, but this was something new for me and I really enjoyed it."
