What an accomplishment for Flipper!! She deserves all the accolades she gets. So great to see her back.

I shake my head when people say "who's that?" or "where did she come from?"

All I can say is... Watch and observe !!!

To be fair to one of your dream girls Tiger, Wicky's play was not without merit. There were many plays

that showed her athletic ability, and that there was a thought process going on. But still no consistency.

That's a product of maturing. Maybe she's just a "late bloomer". And Aga is like that wall I play up against.

Everything comes back!

WICKY certainly didn't get any breaks here (I do enjoy watching her). But I think the cards are

stacked against her. SORI is on a high right now after beating Kvitova, although she's in tough

against Li. She might be exhaused by the time she gets to Cinci. WICKY needs a good match here

to boost her positivity. Hope she has one !!

Well THAT wasn't good! Although the same age, Riske is relatively new to the circuit. And yet Wicky

continues to get down on herself in my opinion, and then her serve goes awry. Then the nerves bring down her

game. Wicky, look in the mirror and repeat after me: "I am strong!; I am beautiful! Now let's go out there

and kick some butt!!!!"

PREVIEW by Matt Cronin...

Maria Kirilenko vs. Yanina Wickmayer

This contest is especially interesting; not because Kirilenko has semifinal possibilities in a very open quarter, but because Wickmayer, a very promising player a few year ago who reached the US Open semifinals in 2009 as a 19 year-old, has been slumping and is now down to No. 58 in the ranking.

Kirilenko is cagey player, one of the most competent volleyers on tour and a terrific counterpuncher. She has not had a great last couple of months, but has had some admirable results at the Slams before. This season, the 26-year-old cracked the Top 10 for the first time.

In 2013, Wickmayer fell out of the Top 30 for first time since 2008. She still hits the heck out of the ball, but has trouble keeping in inside the court and can be exposed on the run. While she has tried to add some new elements to her game, they haven’t materialized in matches. On a great day, she might be able to hit through Kirilenko, but the Russian is too adept of match manager to be upended and will win in straight sets.
