MARIA WAS OUTHOUGHT, OUTPLAYED, AND EVEN OUT-SQUEALED!!

This was a low in a long line of Wimbledon failures since she won in 2004. Yes she has got to a couple of semis and a final, but was beaten easily in all of them. She has lost to a succession of players who you would have thought she would beat in her sleep back then. We thought she would compete in final after final with she-man, but others have worked her out. Her win - lose record at GS finals is now 4-4.

There IS no real rivalry with she-man Williams. Simply because Williams wins every time they play!

Maria's game is too basic. Yes at her very best she can still get to semis, but as soon as she plays the creme de la creme she is found wanting. Her game simply hasn't developed enough, unlike her squealing. That game with Di Brita was bordering on embarrassing the way they out-squealed each other.

I have always been a fan of maria, always will be, but SOMETIMES you have to say it how it really is. Maria is a good grand-slam winner, in the class of Clijsters maybe. SHE HAS NOT REACHED OR WILL EVER REACH THE GREATNESS OF GRAF OR WILLIAMS. There simply isn't enough to her game.

I'm more less agree with you: Yes, She-man Williams is simply too strong to any one to beat unless there is a fearless young up coming player, a player that will play like she has nothing to lose. this will make Serena nervous like she lost in 2004

I still believe that Maria is a fearless player one of the best, however Serena has been in her skin for a while now  and it will take more time for her to rebuild confidence to play against Serena.I thought the spike between the two off-court might help but will never know!!!

Yesterday, Maria was playing against someone that USED to play outside of central court and court 1 and was playing pretty good so if you don't play at your level the outcome we all know today.

But I think once you slipped 2 or 3 times, moi as a player, you start to lose focus and start to worry but again if you are good you should be able to adapt and that I agree with you. She MUST learn and apply plan B or C when needed.

And If I have to compare her to others falling players like yesterday, she is still in a much MUCH better position to rise again so.

Forgot that Maria needs to stay in London because of the WTA event this coming Sunday at Wimbledon. That's why she is watching the match of Grigor today. A 5-setter it is . Will she keep her nerves ?

Ps;  Crazy out there , 9-8 in the 5th set , play suspended !!

Just a little gossip .... :D :D Looks like she wants to stay in London more !!

Bad luck was all over Wimbledon yesterday and former champion Maria Sharapova was among the unfortunate crowd. Now that the Russian has unplanned extra free time and a boyfriend to invest it in, she headed to court No.3 to support her boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov from the stands.

Hopefully Masha prepared a healthy snack, as the second-round match of her darling and Grega Zemlja is now suspended in the fifth set due to rain after more than three and a half hours of play. It's Day 4 and we're having the first rain delay of Wimbledon 2013.

On Monday evening Sharapova and Dimitrov were photographed walking hand in hand to a Japanese restaurant in London. (photo via Maria Sharapova Fans)

Well I didn't watch the match but De Brito must have played well. She's still a mug though, because even though she had this one big win she'll lose in one of the next 2 rounds, instead of carrying on and making a deep run as Maria would have. Every journeyman/journeywoman has some match like this in their career.

And yes, you're right,Maria's game doesn't have that much variety. There will always be someone who can exploit her weaknesses. She was a much better grass player when she was 17-20. Better mover, better server, more variety, more fearless and aggressive. You really have to seperate her career into 2 distinct halves, before and after shoulder surgery. Teenage Maria would wipe the floor with current Maria on every surface but clay. This Maria is physically stronger and fitter and maybe stronger mentally, but that's it really. She may win another 1 or 2 slams, finish up at 5-6 which I think is pretty good for her really. She will always be remembered no matter what happens from here on in

Dartagnan: Maria&Grisha have the same technique.

Eh people who criticize Maria&Grigor's tennis. I would like to remember you that these two lovers do their best in tennis.

I mean these two tennis players are the best in their countries. and not only in their countries..

Grigor has a new destiny in tennis, a new chance in life..

Remember: they are not doped... That is why sometimes they are just tired...They are not robots..

Maria Sharapova

Maria Sharapova

Maria DID get injured--keep that in mind. Just glad she only wrenched her hip a bit & not something more serious.  Thank you. & long string of thanks here because I agree with some part of what everyone has said. Good discussion.

I know some are pissed off & hope Michelle crashes & burns. I don't feel that way. Hey, if she could beat Sharapova yesterday but loses to Knapp toimorrow, everyone will say: Maria just effed up is all that was.  Not so. We did see some really good play from Larcher de Brito. Let's hope she can use that confidence to go deeper.

And yeah, there are issues Masha should address. She knows what they are--another reason I don't want the loss blown off as a fluke.

Injuries are part of the game as much as hitting a proper volley. A volley can go long with the wrong angle of the racket and so can one's body if proper technique isn't implemented while changing direction. What I noticed of some players is that they won't go for a shot and they will follow through with their running motion rather than change direction suddenly and try to reach the ball. Changing direction can be tricky and sometimes it's best to not do so especially when the shot is out of reach. Sometimes it's best just to let it go and not risk getting injured. A good analogy is having a Porsche and trying to make the yellow light, yeah your car can make 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds but do you have have 4.3 seconds to make the yellow light. On the next point try a different shot selection so you are not in such a vulnerable disposition.

Meanwhile, Maria Sharapova, who was ousted on Wednesday, checked Grigor Dimitrov's match out.

Looks like that ring is something special for her, we didn't noticed that before Roland Garros  , but maybe it's only a normal ring.
