Nadal: 'I Am Not The Favorite'
You probably know the stats by now. Rafael Nadal has won eight successive crowns at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, running up 42 wins in a row at the gateway of the European spring clay-court season.

This year, the Mallorcan enters the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court event on the back of 14 straight victories, his 600th career match win and three straight triumphs (Buenos Aires, Acapulco and Indian Wells) after making a remarkable return from a left knee injury that sidelined him for seven months. But despite all his early success in 2013 and his history at the Monte-Carlo Country Club, Nadal states he is not the favourite to hoist the trophy on Sunday.

“I don't feel I am the biggest favourite to win the tournament this year. It's not easy to win this tournament. I will go day by day,” Nadal told a media roundtable Monday. “It's not possible to win every year. Some day that's going to stop. I will try my best to make that happen, but that's life. Not everything is forever. But I am very excited to be here and have a high motivation to play well and put myself in position to have a good tournament. I am a candidate if I play my game.”

Given all he has overcome to put himself back in position among the elite stars of the ATP World Tour, the 22-time ATP World Tour Masters 1000 champion says this part of the tennis calendar is more meaningful than in years past.

“I am excited to play here and play this European clay-court season. It's one of the best parts of the year without a doubt,” said Nadal. “I really enjoy playing in all these tournaments. There are a lot of big emotions that happened in the past.

“But this year is probably more special because I had a really tough year. To be back and playing another time at these places is fantastic. I don't feel pressure that I've felt in years in the past, because I know all that happened, I cannot repeat all of this. But I'm going to try and be competitive and give [myself] chances to play well.”
It was 10 years ago when Nadal made waves for the first time on the ATP World Tour. As a 16 year old, the future ‘King Of Clay’ stunned seventh-ranked countryman Albert Costa in the second round before falling to Guillermo Coria.

“I finished 2002 playing well at a lot of Futures and Challengers. I started 2003 playing indoors. I remember when I started playing on clay, I won the Challenger tournament in Barletta,” reflected Nadal. “To be here in 2003 was a really big dream. It was a tournament I saw on TV. I saw Spanish players having big success. To just be here was amazing. I love the tournament, the place and the conditions to play tennis. Since the first time I've played here, the feeling playing tennis has been fantastic.

“It was a very good loss to Coria. He played the final that year. I won against Kucera and Costa. It was an amazing tournament for me. It was the first big tournament I played. To play a competitive match against one of the best players of that moment was amazing for me.”

Nadal will open his campaign Wednesday against Marinko Matosevic or compatriot Fernando Verdasco.

According to the results, Monte-Carlo tournament is for Nadal! Nadal has won the tournament since 2005! He plays very strongly on the clay!

Of course, he will play with more confidence, the trophy is waiting for Nadal! :D But after his injury, other players might win! Let's see what will happen

Nadal Believes Dimitrov Will Be Top 10.

Rafael Nadal believes that Grigor Dimitrov will one day rise into the Top 10 of the Emirates ATP Rankings.

Speaking after he won their Monte Carlo Rolex Masters quarter-final on Friday, Nadal said, “I always had that feeling. [It] always depends on how he stays mentally, how he's able to keep working hard and improving. But, sure, he's a great player and he has all the shots.  He has everything to be a really, really good player. So [it] depends on him.

“[At 21] he has time. He has time to have a great career… It's not like golf, [when] you have 20 or 25-year career. Here our sport is more aggressive for the body, so we aren’t that lucky.  He still has time and he is doing very well. I saw him play very well in Indian Wells and Miami. He did well here.”

Nadal recorded his 45th straight win at the Monte Carlo with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win over Dimitrov. Nadal lost a set for just the seventh time in nine years at the Monte-Carlo Country Club.

At 4-4 in the deciding set, the eight-time reigning champion admitted, “I was nervous. I accepted that my opponent was playing well and I tried to find a solution to win. Finally, I was lucky. I found a solution at the right time.”

Nadal Overcomes Tsonga Fightback To Reach Final .
One day after passing a stern test against Grigor Dimitrov, Rafael Nadal narrowly avoided another third set as he held off an inspired late fightback from French No. 1 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to prevail 6-3, 7-6(3) in the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters semi-finals.

On Sunday, Nadal will face either World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in a repeat of the 2012 and 2009 finals, or Italian Fabio Fognini, who has gone on a giant-killing run to reach his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semi-final.

The Spaniard fought off an early challenge from Tsonga, saving three break points in the fourth game of the first set. From that point he looked in control of the match. In windy conditions, Tsonga struggled with his timing and was hindered by a spate of unforced errors. Nadal broke in the fifth and ninth games to clinch the opener, and an early break in the second set put him on the path to a 5-1 lead.
At that point, Tsonga staged a last stand. Going for his shots and attacking the net, the Le Mans native recovered one of the breaks for 2-5 and rallied from 0/40 in the following game, saving three match points to get to 3-5. Even breaking a string could not throw off Tsonga. The Frenchman hit a deft backhand drop shot to earn 15/40 in the ninth game and although he was denied the break with two aces, was presented with a third chance as Nadal hit a forehand long and another uncharacteristic error from the Spaniard gifted Tsonga the break.

Tsonga faced a fourth match point on serve at 5-6 as he pushed a backhand long to trail 30/40, but was reprieved as Nadal miscued a backhand wide and the set went to a tie-break. Nadal seized control with a pin-point accurate forehand passing shot up the line to lead 4-3 and from there did not relinquish another point, claiming victory in one hour and 36 minutes.

Nadal improved to an 8-4 FedEx ATP Head2Head record against Tsonga and to a 58-6 mark against Top 10 players on clay.

The 26-year-old Nadal is going for his ninth title in a row at the Monte-Carlo Country Club and has a staggering 48-1 event record. The Mallorcan has not lost at this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court tournament since his 2003 debut.

Nadal is bidding to win his fourth title in five events this year, since his comeback from a seven-month injury lay-off in February. Should he succeed, he would lift his 23rd ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophy, having won his 22nd last month at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells (d. del Potro).

I think it is not the role of the journalists to ask to Maria this kind of question: would you like to go out with Nadal if he invites you ?

It is an idiot question from a journalist because Nadal himself should have asked Maria this kind of question. If Nadal didn't ask her this question that means he was not interested in Maria Sharapova. So why do people want Maria Sharapova to be interested in Nadal ?

I think that Maria Sharapova's answer is clear. Nadal is not her type.

Rafa should wear leather gloves if he has blisters on his fingers.

Golf players use thin leather gloves to avoid blisters.
