Just a part of Maia's interview in the press conference ahead of French Open:
On the illness that forced her to pull out mid-tournament in Rome...
"Unfortunately I had to withdraw from Rome. I have been practicing almost five or six days now, which has been nice. I haven't been back here since my victory, so it's been nice to be able to practice on the courts when it's quiet, and to be back on center court. It's been a nice experience so far."

On what it means to come back as defending champion...
"It's very meaningful. It means you have done something pretty good, and you're coming back into that position and you're trying to defend it. I think it's one of the best honors you can have as a tennis player. There's always a bit of pressure in everything you do, but I'm really looking forward to it."

On the years of getting better and better on clay...
"I didn't just wake up and become good on it - I always knew I'd have to work extremely hard to get to where I am today. It never came easily for me to play on clay, and that's why it took me many years. But I felt like with every year I was getting closer; I got to a couple of semifinals, and last year I just felt like everything came together in many different ways for me here at the French Open."

If Maria plays a good tennis, she might play the final against Serena Williams. But We promise that this final won't be fatal for Maria.

What is stronger – an elephant (Serena) or an ant (Maria) ????

Serena Williams boasted after a easy win against Anna Tatishvili , a Georgian tennis player. Her highest WTA singles ranking is No. 52

"I'd love to open a tennis school for children in my hometown of Sochi." said Sharapova Maria.

Hey Paul, more draw rigging here at RG? Notice how pretty much EVERY single player who could even have a REMOTE chance of beating bloody Serena is on the other side of the draw - Li Na,Jankovic,Stosur,Vika,Maria. I just can't believe we're still talking about Serena f**king Williams all the way into 2013. Only a few more years to go,but the problem is Maria only has a few years as well. Back in 05/06 we were counting on Maria being able to dominate a couple of years post Williams but now she won't even get that. All because this f**king animal is so greedy and loves picking on girls a lot smaller than her. They're so overmatched physically,it's just not a fair game. Either this b1tch is pumped up on steroids or she's a hell of a genetic anomaly.

Hey man! Good to hear from you!  We've missed you here & were worried back during the quakes. Ido not post that much but am often in the Shoutbox chat on the front page of the forum. Come by. :D

What can I say? Got Kuzi v Maka in a first round match coming up soon. I don't think anybody believes anymore it "just happens that way".

But I do think Masha will dominate a couple years past the sisters. Venus is finished already. Theyt just keep propping her up & bringing her on court because the fear when she officially quits, Serena will soon follow. As for whom, the next big meltdown is only a matter of time.

Serena won't make it to Rio  --Masha will.

Sharapova Makes Quick Work of Hsieh at French Open

Maria Sharapova

MOSCOW, May 27 (R-Sport) – Maria Sharapova overpowered Su-Wei Hsieh at the French Open on Monday, defeating the Taiwanese world No. 42 in straight sets.

Sharapova’s 6-2, 6-1 victory came in 54 minutes with her serve topping out at 111 mph. She hit 25 winners, compared with eight by Hsieh.

The Russian world No. 2 beat Hsieh for the second year in a row at a Grand Slam event after taking a round-32 matchup at Wimbledon in 2012.

Sharapova next faces Eugenie Bouchard, the top-ranked Canadian women’s singles player at 77 in the world.

They moved the match from Chatrier to  Lenglen late in the day & just a little before play. I'm sure that didn't help attendance.

Yeah, thought I'd better check up on this forum, see how it's going. I spend a bit of time on tennisforum now and often visit this subsection: http://www.tennisforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=331. Find it quite a valuable source of information on all things Masha. And twitter,of course. I see Deychen on there sometimes.

I was a bit surprised when I watched the RG draw ceremony,I was under the impression that it was a tedious drawn out process where all 128 names were pulled out of the box randomly but it's only the seeds. I don't know, something seemed very fishy in the ATP when over a 2-3 year period almost every tournament where the big 4 were entered had Roger-Novak and Andy-Rafa as the semifinals. Almost EVERY time.

I don't know,I think both the Williams sisters have mentioned wanting to carry on until Rio. I don't think it would be wise for Venus to carry on that long in singles, she's done. I think Serena is greedy and hungry though, and can see Martina and Chris aren't that far ahead in slams now. The only thing is,with her significant bulk, she is far more susceptible to injuries than all the other top players, and chances are she'll have another one at some point as she has all through her career. I really think Maria is one of her key motivations for staying in the game, you can tell she despises Maria, for being more popular, more of a media darling, more highly paid, despite being less successful. Serena is a very bitter person, she remembers every loss, every opponent. She remembers that 2004 Wimbledon all too well, and wants to pay Maria back right to the end for that and be a thorn in her side for the rest of her career. It's very sad,as a Maria fan,to think the rest of her career could continue to play out this way, winning easily against 99% of the field but then struggling to win games, let alone sets or matches, against Mike Tyson.
