Hugo Chavez Cancer - Global cancer rates could increase by 50%

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUQHdnzboww

It is better not to promote the "wireless technology" because of the Microwave radiation of Mobile Phones, Wifi, Wimax, cell antennas...Their number increases exponentially in towns so the Microwave radiation can also help to increase the number of cancers in the world. Global cancer rates could increase by 50% to 15 million by 2020.

How to green the world's deserts and reverse climate change

"Desertification is a fancy word for land that is turning to desert," begins Allan Savory in this quietly powerful talk. And terrifyingly, it's happening to about two-thirds of the world's grasslands, accelerating climate change and causing traditional grazing societies to descend into social chaos. Savory has devoted his life to stopping it. He now believes -- and his work so far shows -- that a surprising factor can protect grasslands and even reclaim degraded land that was once desert.

Clips on farming in Australia. 'Rural' in wiki. An Australian farm (<500 Acres???)
File:Barossa Valley South Australia.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rural

Australia exports 80% of its food...

Australia is a continent where desertification only began somewhat over a century ago, with overgrazing practices; however, the
percentage of land damaged is small relative to other world regions... http://www.eoearth.org/a...ertification?topic=49461

The Great Artesian Basin provides the only reliable source of freshwater through much of inland Australia.[1] The basin is the largest and deepest artesian basin in the world... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Artesian_Basin

Australia is the oldest continent. There has been efforts to make dams, divert rivers, drill water wells...

Movies and farming.

14,000 ACRES in Australia http://www.realestate.co...rming-sa-lameroo-7448291 See this link and look on the right side of the page and you can see where it is at in Australia. It isn't in a dry part of Australia. $328 an acre. It should make over $200,000 a year raising cattle. You don't have to go to the store often. Grow firewood and acres of organic apples, peaches, citrus...

Farms in California are $10,000 an acre if there for sale. You might be able to get a farm in California for $5,000 an acre if you bought 14,000 Arces. Again 14,000 acres is an extremely large farm. An investment, a true heirloom. A productive estate/farm. There are no inheritance taxes in Australia. 640 acres is a square mile.

California wildfire grows 28,000 acres (VIDEO)

California wildfire grows 28,000 acres (VIDEO)

The wildfire burning through Ventura County has scorched 28,000 acres, and firefighters have only 20% of the blaze surrounded, officials said.

A fierce, wind-driven wildfire spread on Friday along the California coast northwest of Los Angeles, threatening 4,000 homes and a military base as residents were evacuated ahead of the flames and a university campus was closed.

By nightfall more than 950 firefighters had built containment around about 20 percent of the inferno, which has blackened more than 43 square miles (111 square kilometers) of dry brush and chaparral since erupting on Thursday morning.

More firefighters were said to be on the way and fire officials said they hoped that diminishing winds and higher humidity would help them make headway overnight and on Saturday.

Fire managers said they expected it would take until next Monday to fully contain the blaze, which sent a pall of thick smoke drifting over the beach community of Malibu and farther inland across Los Angeles County.

Several farm buildings and recreational vehicles were engulfed and fire officials said 15 homes were damaged, along with five commercial properties. While 25 outbuildings were destroyed, no residential structures were lost and no injuries had been reported.

Some 4,000 homes were considered threatened, with evacuations ordered for about a quarter of those residences, the Ventura County fire and sheriff's departments said.

The so-called Springs Fire and a flurry of smaller blazes around the state this week marked a sudden start to a California fire season that some weather forecasters predict will be worsened by a summer of high temperatures and drought throughout much of the US West.

California: Limo fire kills 5, closes San Mateo bridge

пожар огонь пожар пламя

Five women died Saturday night when they were trapped inside a limo that had caught fire as they were traveling on the westbound San Mateo-Hayward bridge in Foster City. The westbound lanes of the San Mateo-Hayward bridge were closed for several hours.

The California Highway Patrol said the fire was first reported around 10 p.m. in the third lane of westbound state Highway 92 at the bridge's decline. As many as ten people were inside the limo and as many as five of them died, according to multiple reports

Witnesses at the scene reported people were trapped inside the burning limo.

CHP officer Art Montiel said officials did not know where the women were going at the time of the fire. He said the San Mateo County coroner will release the names of the women who died after their families have been notified.

Ten people were inside the vehicle at the time, including nine women and the driver, Montiel said.

Four women and the driver, whose gender was not known, escaped. Five of the women, however, were unable to escape from the vehicle and were confirmed dead when officers arrived on-scene.

Two of the four women who escaped were taken to Stanford Hospital and two others were taken to Valley Medical Center in San Jose. All four are being treated for smoke inhalation and burns. The driver was not injured.

It appears the fire started in the back of the limosine, but specifically where or how is still under investigation.

Dartagnan: People still don't understand that without trees on Earth; life would have been impossible for us. Trees are the only source of oxygen for us. Trees also help to reduce the temperature of the air. They help to fight the global warming. BUT Governments in many countries still continue to give autorisation to cut trees so it is impossible to fight the global warming. Few countries replant their trees. In our society, Money is still more important than people's health and environmental issues.   Without trees on earth, plenty of money won't save you because you won't survive.

US Arctic strategy is a hazard to us all

Арктика лед вечная мерзлота таяние глобальное потепление

Despite giving lip service to the problems of global warming and climate change in its new National Strategy for the Arctic Region, the new document largely focuses on how the US can exploit the region's vast untapped oil, gas and mineral resources while paying little to no attention to the values of environmental conservation.

At the heart of Obama administration's new Arctic policy document, which outlines the US government's strategic priorities in the region over the next 10 years, lies a simple but rather appalling contradiction between America's eagerness "to make the most of the emerging economic opportunities in the region" due to the rapid loss of Arctic summer sea ice, and the recognition of "the need to protect and conserve this unique, valuable, and changing environment."

Unfortunately, despite the numerous references to "preservation" and "conservation" of nature, the new policy document fails to specify any steps that US can take to mitigate or prevent the disappearance of the Arctic sea ice due to the ever-growing threat of global warming.

From the outset, the document seeks to "position the United States to respond effectively to challenges and emerging opportunities arising from significant increases in Arctic activity due to the diminishment of sea ice and the emergence of a new Arctic environment."

In other words, it seems that the very success of the new Arctic strategy is premised upon the disappearance of the Arctic summer sea ice.

Indeed, noting that "ocean resources are more readily accessible as sea ice diminishes", the strategy document points out that:

"The reduction in sea ice has been dramatic, abrupt, and unrelenting. The dense, multi-year ice is giving way to thin layers of seasonal ice, making more of the region navigable year-round. Scientific estimates of technically recoverable conventional oil and gas resources north of the Arctic Circle total approximately 13 percent of the world's undiscovered oil and 30 percent of the world's undiscovered gas deposits, as well as vast quantities of mineral resources, including rare earth elements, iron ore, and nickel. These estimates have inspired fresh ideas for commercial initiatives and infrastructure development in the region. As portions of the Arctic Ocean become more navigable, there is increasing interest in the viability of the Northern Sea Route and other potential routes, including the Northwest Passage, as well as in development of Arctic resources."

Further, the Obama administration identifies three fundamental objectives in the Arctic region. First, the document seeks to advance US "security interests" by increasing US military and commercial presence "through, under, and over the airspace and waters of the Arctic". Second, the policy aims to pursue "responsible Arctic region stewardship by conserving its resources". Third, the strategy seeks to intensify inter-state cooperation to promote "collective interests". While all three objectives surely advance US economic and military goals in the region, they hardly touch upon environmental concerns.

What is even more devastating, the policy document offers only one sentence where it explicitly acknowledges potentially destabilising impact of rapidly melting Arctic summer sea ice:

"These consequences include altering the climate of lower latitudes, risking the stability of Greenland's ice sheet, and accelerating the thawing of the Arctic permafrost in which large quantities of methane – a potent driver of climate change – as well as pollutants such as mercury are stored."

To address this hazard, the strategy promises to promote "supporting actions" which will assumingly advance "healthy, sustainable, and resilient ecosystems over the long term, supporting a full range of ecosystem services." However, the document does not specify what these "supporting actions" will entail.

On a more general note, it can be argued that implementation of America's new Arctic strategy will dramatically accelerate the consumption of fossil fuel that has already led to carbon dioxide atmospheric concentrations reaching a record 400 parts per million. At this rate of increase in greenhouse gas emissions the planet will become 16 degrees Celsius hotter by 2100 which will ultimately make Earth uninhabitable.

Thus, it can be suggested that the new US Arctic strategy is not only poorly-conceived and self-interested endeavor, but is also a profound hazard to humanity.

Flood forces to evacuate 10,000 in Germany

06/04/2013

германия наводнение Пассау Бавария

About 10,000 residents in the German city of Bitterfeld in the district of Saxony-Anhalt are preparing for evacuation due to possible floods.

According to a local official Bernhard Boeddeker, the decision was taken because Lake Gottschee located near the city might overflow the banks and completely flood the settlement.

Boeddeker said that this would be a preventive measure because it is unclear how the situation will develop. He assured that a large chemical facility near Bitterfeld is out of danger, and its approach area had been reinforced by sandbags.

At present, the Interior Ministry has reported about three deaths, a firefighter and two civilians.

Power cut has been started in Dresden on Elba.

According to Prime Minister of Saxony Stanislaw Tillich, 30 million euros will be allocated to those who have suffered from floods in Saxony. Distributing payments will be started on Thursday.

Hungary braces for worst-ever floods

06/07/2013

Венгрия Будапешт наводнение

Hungarian authorities are bracing for the largest floods in the history of the country, as they evacuate over two thousand residents of the village Gyoruyfalu in the north-west of the country.

Europe's second-longest river is set to hit unprecedented levels in the capital Budapest in the next few days. It is expected that by Monday morning the Danube’s water level in Budapest may reach 8.85 meters. Currently around 10,000 people are working all across Hungary building protective dams along the banks of the Danube, RIA Novosti reported.

"The dam is stable for now, but the water pressure is so high that we decided to evacuate people from Goruyfalu as a precaution", - said Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

According to him, at present there is no immediate flood threat anywhere else in the country.

Floods caused by heavy rains began last week in the Czech Republic. The elements have already claimed at least 15 lives across Europe.

A state of emergency has been announced almost throughout the Czech Republic.

In Germany, the most affected regions are Bavaria, Saxony, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse. In the west of Austria rail and road transport have been impacted by the weather, as hundreds of residents were evacuated and thousands of people are involved in the flood relief.

Antarctica ice increasing because of global warming - survey

Антарктида Антарктика море айсберг

Scientists from the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute have offered their explanation of why the sea ice in Antarctica is expanding: global warming is the reason. They believe the paradoxical shift is caused by water melting from beneath the Antarctic ice shelves and re-freezing back on the surface. However, not all their colleagues welcome the idea.

Most Russian experts say global warming is a far-fetched issue. A report by Anna Khrustaleva

Published in Nature Geoscience magazine, the Dutch study says that the sea ice around Antarctica is increasing as a result of the melting of the ice sheets from below.

The scientists rely on meteorological data received from satellites and buoys. The deputy head of the Arctic and Antarctica Research Institute, Valery Lukin, sees nothing sensational about the Dutch study.

“Most of the discoveries made in the West are explained with global warming. The Netherlands has no research stations in Antarctica. Well, they do make different kinds of research in the region but all conclusions they made are based on somebody else`s data. All European countries insist that global warming is caused by CO2 emissions and move their factories to third countries in what they find a comfortable way to justify their economic policies.”

A study conducted by the Australian National University in Canberra shows that ice shelves melt ten times faster than 600 years ago. The scientists say the melting speed increased in the middle of 20th century. This gave rise to numerous Armageddon-style predictions.

The head of the Russian state-owned Arctic and Antarctica Museum, Viktor Boyarsky“If all glaciers in Antarctica melt, the global sea level will rise about 60-60 meters. Now, scientists say, the sea level rises by 3mm per year. I`d like to stress that most of Russian scientists and some of our colleagues in the West believe that ice melting in Antarctica won`t result in any catastrophe in the next few centuries.”

Dartagnan: You can believe in an happy end but in reality the end will be catastrophic for all human beings. In few years a great flood will destroy many countries&their nuclear plants which are located near rivers...It is only the beginning of the trouble....We have noticed the new record level of water during floods in Europe...so let's not calm down people because we are going to pay for the pollution we made on this planet.

Unknown bacteria discovered in Antarctica`s subglacial Lake Vostok in 2012 could also affect how things will unfold in the region in future.

It is yet unclear whether these bacteria are harmful to people. Russian scientists are challenged by the task to find this out after the “Academic Fedorov” ship delivers samples of frozen water from Lake Vostok next month.
