Over 120 athletes with either impaired vision or arm/leg function, including sitting para-skiers, took part in cross-country and biathlon events (short and long distance, spring and relay).

The race has been the third sporting event organized by the International Paralympic Committee at the brand-new Laura skiing complex. The tracks were devised for both sitting and standing athletes, with special posts and markings put in place to help skiers navigate.

A shooting ground has also been set up at the Laura complex for impaired shooters. The range is equipped with fixed rifles and targets standing at a distance of only 10 meters, compared to 50 meters at a standard range. Athletes shoot from the prone position.

Visually impaired biathlonists shoot with an electronic rifle that allows aiming by hearing: the closer the rifle points to the centre of the target, the higher its tone is.
